Lets be real here, they have pretty much defeated NATO and they will surely destroy the farce that is the Afghan government.
Well, yesterday Afghanistan was in a much different mass than it it today. Too many protagonists were busy in Afghanistan and too many western powers like CIA and Brits were supporting the war in those days. As well Russia who had a deep hand in the war bringing supplies to the Taliban and to their opposition. The Taliban have not that power what they have had in the past. They are not experienced on the battlefield. Most casualities (90%) rise from IEDs. The modern Taliban fighters are just more radical than their brothers or fathers. Modern Afghan Taliban are no more backed by Pakistan´s security personals. Even if they would support the Taliban live on the field they have to face a strong government army.
Unfortunately, we did a great mistake specially during 2002-2006, that we killed many high ranking Taliban personals than just imprisoning them and later use them for negotiatians. That destroyed actually evey sign of trust between us and the quetta shura. A not forgivable mistake. Maybe you don´t know because the media´s are more urbancentric than nationalcentric, but there are massive national mobilisation. In Kandhaar we have 20 different Mujaheddin groups who are right now arming to battle the Taliban. The northern people supported by Mr. Atta are right now mobilizing as well. In western Afghanistan all Mujaheddin commanders are right now to be incooperated into the ANA and ANP. We have the Uzbek militias in Kunduz, Faryab and in some parts of Sar Pul. Hazrat Ali in Nangarhar has a powerful base. Qanuni and his network is supporting him through routes coming from Balkh and Badakhshan. In Baghlan and Kunduz we have some Hizb Islami fractions loyal to government fighting the Taliban. A Taliban take-over will not happen even if US withdraw from south. We are ready to fight here and die here but we will not accept Taliban. The Taliban maybe will take only over some districts and Zabul and Khost province but we are busy right now to create there as well militias and mobilization. Helman has only one region that is Taliban affected and this is only Sangin. All other regions are kept Talibanfree. In northern Afghanistan only some districts in Badghis and Faryab are under Taliban influence.

People and Khans of the villages, their political leaders are not that stupid to trust the current situation. People never have stopped to be prepared for another Taliban rising. Every side since 2002 is busy in arming and mobilizing people. The elections on Saturday will maybe bring changes to Afghanistan but let´s see what will happen.
