  • Afghanistan to become WTO member

Preparations for Afghanistan to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) are in the final stages and that in the next three months Afghanistan will become a member. The key to Afghanistan’s long-term stability is economic prosperity and development anchored in a secure and sound society.
World Trade Organization (WTO) membership would bring along many economic opportunities to the country, enhance investment in the country and solve some of the major transit issues of Afghanistan.
WTO membership means that the nation automatically receives the Most Favored Nation status. Basically, this means all 159 WTO members must treat each other the same. They give no preferential trade benefit to any one member without giving it to all.
In your opinion, how important is it for Afghanistan to become WTO member?

Without peace and stability in the country, this move has no effect on the future of Afghanistan. The bloodshed has to stop first.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

      Dear Admin Khan,

Terrorism and extremism continue to target not only the security of Afghanistan but the region. The international community is well aware of these threats and will continue to support Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) to root out these threats. A professional, capable and sustainable security forces in Afghanistan will play an important role in the political and security transition of Afghanistan.
The United States and the international community remain dedicated in their commitment to the people of Afghanistan and support their efforts toward peace, stability, reconciliation and prosperity.

Why didn't USA and the ''international community'' leave the items to Afghans as they left or are packing. They said they will give all weapons and trucks etc to Pakistan, Tajikistan and other central asian countries, why don't they leave it to Afghan forces and people?
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

          Dear PF Knowledgeable,

Those are media inaccurate reports. Below please read ISAF statement. I am also attaching the link to the article below.

U.S. Forces - Afghanistan not providing excess equipment to Pakistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (March 27, 2014) — United States Forces-Afghanistan has seen the inaccurate media reports stating that excess military equipment that is part of the U.S. transition is given to Pakistan. These reports are not correct. USFOR-A does not provide or intend to provide any such equipment, including MRAPs, from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

“Our commitment to the Afghan people and the Afghan National Security Forces is unwavering,” said Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Commander of the International Security Assistance Force.

This will be stupendous. Afghanistan and peace as well as prosperity is a vicious circle. Afghanistan cannot have prosperity and peace if it is not member of WTO and it is not member of WTO because there is no peace.

We have to break this cycle. Let Afghanistan become member and then peace and prosperity will automatically entail.

this subtle trolling is getting on my nerves.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

world recognition, military intervention by major western powers, their underlings, and hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars could not bring peace to afghanistan, but membership in a trade organization by a country which produces almost no exports will bring peace. you heard it here first.

My above post was in response to this quoted post. I wanted to convey that peace is not sine qua non for WTO membership. If we do not have and if an opportunity comes to be member of an important trade organization, then we may not wait for peace but to join WTO which will bring many things good and thus we can reap peace and prosperity together.

If we wait for peace and do not apply or get membership of WTO, we will lose both. Why not to opt for at least one which is readily available.
