  • What do you Afghans make of Dostum?

Being a Pakistani Punjabi, I have heard many tales of this Uzbek.

So what do Afghans think of Abdul Rashid Dostum?

I have read about him, and to me he sounds like a kaafir.

On the internet he is introduced as a violent, strong and crazy man.

They say that this warlord should be feared. But I am Muslim, and I fear nobody, other than Allah swt.

If I get a chance to, I will kill this kaafir.

I am not here to spread Pakistani propaganda, but from what I have read about this guy, he has commanded many Muslims to be killed. He is an ex communist and a zaalim. I hope Pashtuns **** this ******* in my opinion.

Tell me, what you Afghans think about this guy, please.

The guy is human trash, former commie who turned on his masters when the ship was sinking. He maintained his fiefdom up north which made him a player in the 90s civil war, and made these islamic groups look like hypocrites by allying with him. the guy was a non factor until the american invasion, i believe he was living in turkey at the time. karzai basically sidelined him and gave him some symbolic title and sent him into retirement. his position has been significantly weakened by his rivalry with atta muhammad in balkh province.

he is a has been but still commands the respect of many uzbeks which is why ghani chose him as vp.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Did he kill many of his own people? I am not an expert in Afghan politics.

Is he another power hungry sob that has no interests in the well being of Afghanistan?

Is he a hijacker of Uzbek population? He sounds like an opportunist thug to me.

And finally, does he have any chance in the oncoming elections in Afghanistan?

From what I read about him, he sounds like a filthy war criminal like Slobodan Milosevic. I don't understand why such a vile human being like him, is even allowed to partake in the Government of Afghanistan.

uzbeks are a small population and have largely stayed unrepresented in politics with no grand political ambitions so they have never really been a target by anyone. dostums political clout came mainly from his geography rather than his ethnicity but after the american invasion, his position became weak with the rising of tajik political/military rivals in his backyard. this despite the initial american support and policy of "support anyone who is anti taliban."

dostum still has political support from the uzbek population which is why he was chosen as a vp by ghani, i believe he also has some hazara support. he like many others try to play the role of fighter turned humanitarian and some people buy it and others don't. afghans are no different than any other people, most are dumb some are not. the people voting for ghani fall into the dumb catagory.

Dostum isn't running for president or anything.

A think one must know about current Afghanistan is that almost every leader is a warlord. Dostum is a horrible person and he indeed did extreme horrible crimes, but he is far from being alone in that matter. Abdullah x2 and his gang had equal footing in destroying Afghanistan and killing innocent people.

It is for the most part tajik propaganda to blame everything on Dostum, so people forget or ignore the crimes the rest of northern alliance did.

Currently Uzbek and Pashtun are the two ethnicities who is under represented in the government and that why northern people fear that Pashtuns and Uzbek join forces.

Right now Ashraf Ghani is the only one who haven't committed crimes and have a clean history. He also want a better relation with Pakistan. Abdullah x2 in the other hand want a hostile relation with Pakistan and even support TTP for retaliation against Pakistan.
Don't quote me or speak to me if you hate Afghanistan, you be ignored.

People with identity crisis will be ignored as well.

Dostum does not sound like a patriot to me, and I am not even being partial to Pashtuns. From what I have read, he was in cahoots with the Russians. He was killing his own countrymen for power. He was having tanks roll over Muslim Mujahadeen to please his blood thirst. I admit Karzai is a tool, but he is no war criminal. Afghans should not allow warlord thugs to dictate their nation. This guy Dostum sounds as pathetic as our Baluch president/thug Zardari. I hope Taliban kill Dostum soon, Inshallah.

He does not seem like an asset to Pashtuns or Uzbeks. Afghanistan requires a leader that is true to his nation. Not some punk warlord opportunist.

Punjabi, wtf was definition of patriotism during 80s? . Do you think dostum was the only one who sided with soviets? .Najibullah was pashtun and he was a communist. Have you ever heard about khalqi and parchami factions of afghan communists?. Khalqis were primarily pashtuns while parchamis were mostly tajiks.hafizullah ameen and noor mohammad tarakai were pashtuns while babrak karmal was tajik.

From the media Dostum emerges a rogue and butcher. He has no scruples to shift loyalty. But he is a survivor which by itself is an achievement given the complexities of the Afghan situation.

no one really knows Babrak Karmels origins. He claimed he was Pashtun so pashtun in the country would accept him. Some even speculate his ancestors originally came from Kashmir.

Dostom came to power during Najibs era. Najib did not trust Pashtuns because he was afraid they would side with Hekmatyar and he did not trust tajiks because he was afraid they would side with Masoud. So he put Uzbeks into powerful positions because in Najib's mind they had no other choice and we all know he was still backstabbed so it was inevitable that Najib would be backstabbed by whoever he put in power.

Tajiks leaders have gotten too greedy. What they should do is use him to sideline Pashtuns but they have completely sidelined him and have taken over his territory. So Pashtun leaders in the gov are using him to attempt to balance Tajik power in the north. Pashtuns leaders in the gov don't really want him dead, he is useful to them against Tajiks.

So Dotom isn't really a survivor because he is smart or shrewd, in reality he is very stupid. If he was smart, he would try to balance Tajik and Pashtun for the benefits of his community. Hazaras on the other hand have taken full advantage of the political situation in the country to their benefit.
