  • Waziristanis flee to Afghanistan

About 20,000 people have been displaced by a looming full-scale operation by the Pakistani military and ongoing airstrikes on militant hideouts in the troubled northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan, with nearly 100 fleeing into Afghanistan, an official said Saturday. After the killing of 23 Pakistani Frontier Constabulary (FC) soldiers by the Taliban, the Pakistani army is believed to launch a major offensive to root out militants from the restive North Waziristan, where dozens of rebels have reportedly been killed in recent airstrikes.
The United Nations refugee agency says of 20,000 displaced from the region, nearly 100 of them have acrossed the border into Afghanistan.
The Pakistani refugees are believed to have arrived in border villages of southeastern Khost province, which shares border with North Waziristan.
Nearly 100 people have crossed the border into Afghanistan from northern Pakistan, a UN spokesperson said on Friday.
Mohammad Akbar Zadran, administrative head of Gurbaz district, confirmed he had been informed that some Pakistani families had crossed the border into Afghanistan from North Waziristan.
UN Secretary General's spokesman Martin Nesriky said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs was in contact with the authorities and was following the situation closely.
He said the Pakistani government had not requested international assistance, however some local non-government organisations were providing emergency aid including food supplies and medical assistance to the displaced.
The OCHA team in Afghanistan on Friday reported that more than 90 people had crossed the border from northern Pakistan into Afghanistan.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Last month rahimullah yousafzai and a JUI-F MNA were saying that utmanzai wazir elders have decided that if military operation occurs, they would request Afghan governament to give them refuge.
Hafiz gul bahadur, who is heading wazirs of NW, might prove to be a game changer. He is the grandson of legendary faqir of ipi and is known for keeping tribe's interests above any thing despite being a taliban. Unlike mehsud taliban who killed most of their malaks, hafiz gul bahadur enjoys support of tribal elders of his tribe. Paki army do not care about consequences of military operation, its destructions and collateral damages because TTP is not separatist , it has never thought about separatist insurgency in FATA. If Afghanistan governament, NDS can play its cards right, a rebellion against pakistan might be initiated by utmanzai wazirs which would be soon followed by ahmadzai wazirs and then Afridis who are upset over relentless bombardment of their areas.

Pull out your swords and slay anyone that says Pashtun and Afghan are not one. Arabs know this and so do Romans: Afghans are Pashtuns and Pashtuns are Afghans!

Khushal Khan Khattak (1613–1689) was a prominent Afghan(pashtun) poet, warrior, charismatic personality and tribal chief of the Khattak tribe of the Afghans. He is the first Afghan mentor who presents his theories for the unity of the Afghan resistance against the foreign parts, and the creation of a nation-state.
