  • Death anniversary of Dr Najeebullah observed in pekhawar

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Senator Afrasiab Khattak Friday said that Pakistan was fast slipping into the hands of militants who were gaining ground with each passing day and the writ of the government was becoming weaker.

“If the rulers didn’t take proper steps and evolve a proper strategy, the cities will soon fall to militants,” he said told a gathering at the ANP’s Bacha Khan Markaz. The meeting was organised in connection with the 17th death anniversary of Dr Najeebullah, late president of Afghanistan who was killed by Taliban soon after capturing Kabul on September 27, 1996.

The followers and admirers of Dr Najeebullah across the Durand Line regularly observe his death anniversary to pay him homage. Afrasiab Khattak warned the forces who once again want to allow militants to take over Afghanistan that any such move would create Yugoslavia-like chaos in the entire region.

He stressed that the neighbouring countries should not interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs and instead allow the Afghans to decide their destiny. Afrasiab Khattak said, “Dr Najeeb was a dynamic, intelligent, energetic and courageous person who stood for the unity of Afghan nation and never compromised on interests of his country.”

The ANP leader said Dr Najeeb was the architect of reconciliatory politics in Afghanistan. “He started negotiations with all the stakeholders. Had he been allowed to succeed in his endeavours, Afghanistan would have been a cohesive, democratic and peaceful country with no signs of terrorism,” he opined.

Bashir Khan Matta, provincial organising secretary of the party, said that Dr Najeeb was beacon of light for those who believe in peace, progress and prosperity of Afghans. He added that the Afghan leader envisioned a free, democratic and developed Afghanistan for which he negotiated with all stakeholders including his bitter rivals.

Former provincial minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that Dr Najeeb was a popular Afghan leader whose bravery and love for his land could be gauged from the fact that despite offers from different quarters to take him out of the country he refused and said that he would rather die on Afghan soil than to live abroad.

He said that Dr Najib was killed in a very humiliating and brutal manner and the Pakhtuns could not forget it and will keep on the struggle against those anti-humanist forces. “Today, we are facing the same enemy that killed Dr Najib and we pledge that the party will continue its efforts till elimination of such evil forces,” he stressed.

ANP leaders and workers, members of Malagary Doctaran, Malgaray Wakeelan, Pukhtun Students Federation and National Youth Organisation were present on the occasion. Dr Saeedur-Rahman, president of Malgaray Doctaran also spoke on the occasion and lauded the sacrifices of Dr Najib.

Dr sahib shaheed will be rememberd forever in the hearts and minds of geratmand pashtuns accross the durandline.
He was loved and respected by patriotic pashtun in pashtunkhwa.
His father when he was in peshawar built good relation with local pashtuns.
It is realy a big shame and begeratob that punjabi hamid gul orderd the death of patriotic afghan and great pashtun najeebullah khan.
The crowed of pashtuns in kabul watched how they kill their beloved leader.
No pashtun or afghan had the gutts to stop that evil act of hamid gul .He killed him with help of sell out pashtuns.
Will tajiks, uzbiks and even punjabis do this to their leader?
If he killed afghans then why not bring him to court?
    Did,nt dostum killed afghans?
He is alive and living great life.
Many more criminals are still alive why?

why always pashtuns do this kind of dawostob?

what will you do as a leader of afghanistan if your own benang pashtuns fight you for the interest of pakistan and others?
    This is what he did.
Najeeb begged them to lay down the weapons and come to the table but sell out pashtuns followed islam abad,s instructions.
Still people say pashtun this and that.
He was the most clever and intelegent leader afghanistan ever had in its history.
He given rights to women, minorities etc.
That was the reason he was loved by all afghans and educated and patriotic pashtuns.
Since the fall of najeeb afghanistan is now known for terrorism, ethinc violence and all of the above corruption.
    tarakai
    dawood
    and najeeb killed why?

why sell out pashtun never die and geratmand one got killed?
    do,nt blame pakis and others.
pashtuns are benang, jahil and money hungry.
    It is fact.
Accept this reality and then we will move on in the future.
If we continue with slogan and fake claim of superiority we will never move on.

    good luck

Gadoonwal. You may have seen this before, but yes, we are easily bought.

Whilst many Baloch have melted into Sindhi society, my overall impression of them is that they can come together much better to assert their own sense of identity and ideological direction. Their fight makes sense. Our fight feels like it is for the most number of $$ or to pay for our next meal.

The thing is, everything this man said, became true. We should never forget, those terrorists who bombed inside Afghanistan, all of them who took up guns against its mother soil, it was all mix of brainwashed peasants, hazaras, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Pashtuns. I don't like communists and other foreign puppet power, but we could achieve peace without destroying whole Afghanistan. But when you alliance yourself with sheytans like Arab, Russia, USA, Iran, Pakistan, you get more than what you wanted.
To Paradise, with Pakhto, I will go.

Funny how Pakis are now honoring Dr. Najibullah when they were the ones who poured terrorists and brainwashed Afghan refugees in to Afghanistan who killed him.
Kind of funny when you think about it. :P

If you choose to rent yourself out, what does that make you?

Whilst there is much we often cannot fully comprehend and appreciate, lslam is ideal and perfect.

Muslims, on the other hand, are not. We can and have been bought and sold on the open market. The state of the Muslim world stares us right in the face and our faces are rubbed into our own shame every day.

We're not powerless, however but we have to break free from the designs of imperialists. Those imperialists are not even necessarily 'Western'. What Pakistan (presumably 'Muslim') and Iran, Saudi etc have done to Afghanistan and Pashtuns, only they can answer for. There are many Pashtuns in Afghanistan and Pakistan who are also complicit in the destruction of Pashtun society and pride in the name of whichever ideology pays the most. These are the people who have committed crimes against their own or have looked the other way whilst blood has spilt.

You do know that he was head of KHaD who used to help Russian soldiers cut off Pashtun girl's breasts and rape them right?

I don't know why he's considered a hero for saying something even the Americans predicted.

The utter destruction of Afghanistan as a state, culture and people has been so relentless and thorough, that our widows are beggers, our peghlas are prostitutes, our youth are terrorists and our farmers are drug cultivators

Any wonder why we look to former leaders to historical revisionism and romanticism?

fair point, but we shouldn't glorify said leaders when they were part and parcel of that predicament.

I believe massoud was a better patron of the Tajik nationalists cause compared to Najib being a patron of Pashtun nationalists cause.

Najib killed, tortured and expelled primarily rural Pashtuns weakening the fabric of Pashtun community in the South and the East. He expelled Awami National Party and Achakzai when no longer saw any benefit in them. He surrounded himself with Tajik and Hazara ministers in his cabinet alienating his own Pashtuns and sidelining them. He armed anti-Pashtun militias in the north.

Massoud never did any of this to his own. Still Pashtuns worship Najib just like Tajiks worship Massoud.
