NOWSHERA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial head Sikandar Sherpao on Friday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had insulted the mandate of the Pakhtuns by suggesting the construction of the controversial Kalabagh dam.
Speaking at the anti-Kalabagh dam rally here, he said the Pakhtuns would not accept the construction of Kalabagh dam.
He said Khyber Pakhtun-khwa chief minister didn’t have the guts to condemn the statement of Imran Khan despite knowing that the dam would drown his hometown Nowshera. The QWP leader said Pervez Khattak got two MNAs and five MPAs elected from his home district by promising the moon, but he has now ditched the voters.
“The PTI was rejected in the rest of the country, but the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa voted it to power,” he said, adding that Imran Khan announced support to the controversial dam project in his bid to become the prime minister by gaining the sympathies of the voters from Punjab.
He said that his party would launch the anti-Kalabagh campaign.Sikandar Sherpao said the Pakhtuns living on both sides of the Durand Line had been exposed to a host of problems. He said the rulers were least bothered to address the issues being faced by the Pakhtuns.
He urged the government to bring an end to the violence on the soil of the Pakhtuns, which has not only destroyed peace, but also affected the economy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
