The National Security Council (NSC) on Wednesday said Afghanistan remained in grip of a complex intelligence war that was misconstrued as sectarian violence.
These views were expressed by NSC deputy head Yaqub Ali while speaking at the inauguration of the first-ever Engineering School at the Kabul Police Academy.
He said emplacing bombs in mosques, religious schools and military bases was the handiwork of the enemies of Islam. Fighting against such enemies was the duty of every citizen, he added.
He alleged children were being brainwashed and sent to Afghanistan for killing innocent people and destroying their properties.
Rahimi condemned a recent incident, in which a 10-year-old girl was forced into conducting a suicide attack on border police in southern Helmand province.
The girl was reportedly forced by her brother into carrying out the attack on Afghan police, but she avoided doing so by surrendering to law-enforcers.
“If the government and the Afghan people really want to win the war, they should be ready for any kind of sacrifice,” he stressed.
Speaking on the occasion, Police Academy Commander Syed Noorullah Zal called the inauguration of the engineering school to train police on how to defuse bombs a step forward.
He said roadside bombings continued to threaten the lives of Afghan forces and civilians.
Ministry of Interior official Akram Yawar said 80 percent of casualties among security forces and civilians had been the result of roadside bombings.
He added 350 police officers, who completed a training course Balkh province in defusing bombs, had little effects on their ability to do so. “That’s why such a police engineering school was greatly needed.”
