Northren afghanistan was always a pashtunland.
Balkh in the old days was known as ,,bakhty,.
Ghor was the home of pashtuns untill the mongol invasion.
Thousands of pashtuns were forced out from ghor ,north and central afghanistan.
The ghilzais and kakar and other gharghasht sub tribes moved towards east.
There were tajiks and uzbiks during the time of ahmad shah abdali in the north but not native migrants.Many of them cross the border during octobar revolution in USSR 1920.
TAJIKSITAN was mountain country and that was the reason many of them still crossing to the south.
Samething with uzbiks.The tajiks are spread as far as ghazni city and gardez in pashtun heartland.
The pashtun country pakhtya or paskhtunkhwa go as far as multan.
This whole area was known pakhtya or pakhtunkhwa.
Before the yousufzai,mamadzai,khatak,jadoon and khalil momand the peshwar valley area and other settle areas were the home of another pashtun tribes dalazaks,swati and tanolis.
So it is wrong to say pashtun occupied these areas from others..
In fact the seraikis moved from the east towards west to pashtun land of maiwali and multan and even di khan.
The uzbiks and tajiks moved from north towards south in the last few centuries and some recently.
The hazaras are the decendants of mongols and are not native to the land.

ghaznavi did not invade Afghanistan, he was from Afghanistan. If Arabs migrated to the north as you say that does not mean that tajiks are not indigenous. Pashtuns history precedes durrani but Afghanistan as a nation of today is influenced by him. He created the northern borders.
