you forgot to add quotations around "muslim"There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Pashtuns Conundrum: Religion or Nationalism (Can I be both?!) - Yesterday, 10:14 AM
A lot of time when I see Pashtuns, I see them in a confused state Either they are religious and want nothing to do with nationalism.. they want to sacrifice Pashtun language, Culture and everything else for religion (I had to exaggerate the problem a little, so that we can see it better). Or they are nationalists and feel that they have to cut all their connection with religion to be a genuine nationalist.
Case in point: JUI-F and other religious parties, who win most of their votes from Pashtun areas but (Bastreds) do nothing for Pashtuns culture, language, and people in general.. well Islamic political parties in Pakistan really dont do anything for anyone in Pakistan, but themselves. However, I feel that they have this negating attitude towards Pashtun culture.. Even look at Tablighe Jamat in Pakistan.. Even though most of their following comes from Pashtun they are very indifferent to promotion of Pashtun cause in terms of promotion of Pashtun culture etc etc.. they feel that it is a futile exercise.. This results in them losing a lot of nationalist votes.. and a lot of nationalists (such as myself) turning away from Tableghe Jamat.
Second Exhibit has to be Nationalist parties.. in Pakistan as well as Afghanistan,.. They feel that they have to cut all connection with religion because they are nationalist.. And that somehow would not gel with religion.. Look at ANP etc etc.. but these nationalists have to realize that most of their potential voters are also Muslims and in order to retain or gain that vote they have to show their religious side as well..
I therefore, am of a humble opinion that both sides have to devise a middle course to gain as much traction as possible.. and we have to realize that they actually go together.. we wont go to hell for being nationalist.. or being nationalist does not mean that we have to be atheists (Which in my opinion would lead to hell)What really drives me hazy is it me or are the others crazy

you cant compare Islam to nationalism or give the choice between these two or both.
Islam is far superior than your man made french idealogy.
As for one loving their country , Afghans dont need to be nationalists to like their country, islam gives you the right to love and protect your country.
but offcourse you guys arent even true nationalists more like opportunist paper tigers.

i make a clear distinction between patriotism and nationalism.
For me these both are not the same , i can be a patriot and a muslim.
Even Prophet (pbuh) loved his city.
your nationalism is based on the french revolution and the idea of nation state according to such an idealogy.

Dont tell me where i stand.. but my idea is that nationalism and religion can go togathter. . and i am saying that being religious doesnt mean that you shun all your links with culture.. (As i am sensing you are one of those religious kinds..).. and i am also saying that God made us what we are and we should welcome that.. Also i am not saying that pashtuns are the best (Because they are not.. i am sure). but i am a pashtun for last 5000 years.. Muslims for last 1400 years and Paksitani for last 60 years.. Although Islam is more important for me.. i belive pashtuwali and islam goes togather. ..Finally. no i dont want an exclusivey pashtun state.. but i want pashtuns to be given their right in their respective countries.. kabish??Originally posted by ډګروال View Postwhat about khilafa?

Who says Islam is against Pashtun culture (offcourse it is against the stupid parts). European idealogies such as french revolution inpired nationalism is not compatible with Pashtun culture.Originally posted by Tiger Khan View PostDont tell me where i stand.. but my idea is that nationalism and religion can go togathter. . and i am saying that being religious doesnt mean that you shun all your links with culture.. pashtun culture is for most part Islamic and nationalism in your case is against Pashtun culture and it pits Pashtuns against other nations be it muslim or non muslim.
Islam and nationalism dont go together , to know this i dont need to be "religious kind" as you are sensing with your spider sense.
nationalism seperates people (in this case muslims) and it also causing troubles among nations as everyone is trying to secure their own nationalistic interests whiule not caring about the interests of others.
have heard that "iam pashtun for 5000 years......"
that is just an excuse by some anti islam seculer pathankhwa leaders to shun down Islam. this the same tactic used by many including in Afghanistan.
bottom line is
-Islam is not against culture(which isnt unislamic)
-nationalism isnt compatible with the predominantley Islamic Pashtun culture
-the inheritors of pashtun culture are the religious Pashtuns
-you can love your country and defend its interests

Generally speaking, a Muslim serving in a non-Muslim army at war with Muslims becomes an apostate by default. No matter how many mosques you build and no matter how many prayers you preform, your alliance with disbelievers in war with Muslims makes all of your worship invalid.Originally posted by FirdousiNever talk with Afghans about politics. All their political knowledge is limited to conspiracy theories, political demonization and contradictions. No logic, no reason.
