Baloch being converted into minority in Balochistan’ * BNP-M says millions of Afghan refugees registered as locals

    * Demands immediate cancellation of registration

    By Mohammad Zafar

QUETTA: Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Acting President Jahanzaib Jamaldini said the Baloch were being converted into a minority in the province through a conspiracy.

“Millions of Afghan refugees have been enlisted as locals in the recent house-listing, which was rejected by the BNP-M, and the party will resist the conspiracies against Balochistan,” Jamaldini said while addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Tuesday.

He said that through a conspiracy on the part of Islamabad, Afghan refugees had been settled across Balochistan, and they had obtained NICs and passports without any hurdle. “There are more than four million Afghan refugees and most of them are not registered,” he said, adding that inclusion of Afghan refugees in the recent house-listing should be cancelled.

The BNP-M leader said the population of Pashtun districts had been increased manifold in the recent census as compared to the last census of 1998 to convert the Baloch populations into minority. “The population of Qila Abdullah district, according to the 1998 census, is 370,269, while the new population shows it to be 2,138,997, which shows a 447.7 percent increase,” he said, adding that they rejected the census and demanded immediate cancellation of registration of the Afghan refugees in the province.

Responding to a question regarding the new Pashtun province, Jamaldini said that they had no objection to formation of a Pashtun province consisting of Pashtun districts, however, the demand should be made from Islamabad, not from the Baloch. “Besides formation of new provinces, the areas of Balochistan, including Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, should be incorporated into the province,” he added.

“The statistic secretary in Islamabad has confessed on record that big irregularities have been made in the recent house-listing in Balochistan,” he said, adding that they had great respect for Afghan refugees but they needed to be repatriated to their country.

To a query, he said that 70 percent Baloch lived in Sindh, 28 percent in Punajb and six percent in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, but they never demanded that Sindh should be called a Baloch-Sindhi province or Punjab should be called a Baloch-Punjabi province.

“The Baloch are in a state of war. Thousands of people have gone missing and hundreds of bodies have been recovered. In such a situation, demanding a new province is tantamount to rubbing salt on the wounds of the Baloch,” the BNP-M leader remarked.

To another query about the upcoming elections, he said that BNP-M was a democratic party and would adopt all democratic means for the rights of the people of Balochistan.

    Earlier, Fouzia M
arri, along with her companions, announced to join the BNP-M.

Im pretty sure the corruption is there but the 4 million afghan refugee number is extremely exaggerated. There are less than 2 million afghan refugees in all of Pakistan and the majority are in KP. The problem the baloch have is that their numbers are small which makes them politically weak.

Balochistan, that is the land of the Baloch, begins in Makran in the south and ends at Sibi in the north. So whatever happens in the districts in the north is no business of the Baloch nationalists because Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta, Loralai, etc are part of the Pashtun watan that have only been retained in the province 'Balochistan' by the Punjabi masters of Pakistan.

i like how he assumes that a bunch of 20-30 yr old paki forum members from the west have any say in the decision making process of the problem he is addressing.

the guy in the article says that there is a huge influx of afg refugees but then says he rejects the census, so which is it? like khushal said, today there are less than 2 mil. afgs in pakistan. since its safe to assume that afghan refugees are not in the business of fixing census numbers or have any political desire of uprooting people of a province by demographic games, then the baloch beef should be with the authorities and not with afghan refugees who don't care one way or another.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Guys pls relax lets be realistic.
This man mir baluch could be anyone .He is anti-pashtuns light and clear.
Now the afghans are much more then 2 millions. The 2 millions or more are the regitered one the total number is around 4 millions with 2 millions unregistered .
The majority of them are living in pashtunkhwa, many in Baluchistan (south pashtunkhwa) also settled.Punjab and karachi also have good numbers of afghans.

The pashtuns in Baluchsitan are in majority long before the arrivals of afghan refugees so this is wrong to say baluch are in minority cus of afghans.
16 pashtuns distts of north baluchistan are not part of baluchistan so it is up to the pashtun of that area to decide.
This is also true that many kandaharis and helmond pashtun permanantly settled there.
I have been there more then one time and have seen them but they are in pashtun dominated areas and they are not many.
Many afghans also got NIC with help of pashtuns there, true.
Many afghans in pashtunkhwa got NIC with help of local pashtuns and i see nothing wrong with that.
Pashtuns should help eachother in such situation.
THIS LAND IS OWNED BY PASHTUNS AND THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO SHOULD COME HERE .

First of all the UN finances the afghan refugees in Pakistan and Pakistan steals most of the Aid that is provided by the UN, so its actually in the interest of Pakistan to have afghan refugees, for them the more the merrier.
Second, there are 1.6 mill registered and the unregistered numbers maybe number 200,000-300,000 at the most. In the past the vast majority of unregistered resided in FATA because there was very little or no gov authority there but today since there are military operations, that is not the case.

                            Don't try to exaggerate.
