  • Why cannt ANP win any seats in Karachi?

Some demographic data on Karachi shows pashtuns making up around 25% of the population of the district, while some show 13%. But in my opinion even 13% in Karachi is huge. Wht cannt ANP win any seats in Karachi? or Pashtun votes for MQM??!!

It's a bit more complicated than that.

Many constituencies in Karachi were demarcated a long time ago and many demographic changes have come about since then. Some areas have become more densely populated while others have expanded. In any case, there is probably just one provincial constituency in which Pashtuns form a majority. Other constituencies are demarcated in such a way that Mohajirs form around 40% of the population, followed by 20% Pashtun, 10% Sindhi and so on. You'll see that this is the case with most areas.

As a result, wherever Mohajirs make up more than one-third of the population, they achieve electoral success with ease. This isn't because Mohajirs overwhelmingly vote for them but it's because since the MQM has been in government for nearly 20 years, it has cemented the hold of its thugs (sectors and units) in various areas and during elections, these gangsters engage in activities such as casting fake votes, intimidating voters of opposition parties, etc.

Lastly, the Pashtun vote is divided between ANP, JUI, JI, PTI, PPP and even PML-N. For instance, Ifranullah Marwat has allied himself with Nawaz Sharif for the 2013 elections while a large number of the Pashtun youth attends JI and JUI madressahs so they are never expected to elect Pashtun leaders.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

what's yellow? clifton is where we have our house, my mom side lived in Gulshan e Iqbal, not any more though

Also MQM is famous for it's bhatta Khori, many are just forced to vote for them, this latest elections clearly showed that. They didn't let muhajirs or others vote for PTI, PTI was a serious threat for these guys

ANP had won seats in previous elections with their ministers also. However Pashtuns are more Islamists than Pashtuns. Mullahs very easily deceive them. Also in Karachi they are not united under one banner of ANP or PMAP.

I agree that pashtuns get manipulated in the name of religion. I think land demarcation was also a cause of pashtun nationalist party or any religious party (If pashtuns vote for them) for not winning any seats from Karachi.

However, we all have to recognize the fact that MQM was there because of Pahstuns and other ethnic minorities in Karachi. By taking out that boggie man MQM's future has also become uncertain.

Maybe its because ANP is not such a good option due to their corruption and infidelity.

Because the ANP leadership can't attend the funeral of Liaqauat Bangash, leave aside asking for the rights of other common Pakhtuns.

Whether i am pashtun or not, it doesnt change the facts. True that MQM is the mother of all evils in karachi but there are also other criminal mafias operating in city. Have you ever heard about layari, the no-go-area and criminal hub of our baloch bros?. Drug mafia and transport mafia are none other than pashtuns.
While MQM will paralyse the city in protests if their single killer is arrested, they never give up on their men. ANP on the other hand uses pakhtoon students like fodder and give up on them. They have borrowed this idea of using students as target killers from MQM who uses its student wing APMSO for such purpose.
Your non violent angels killed a pti student in bannu university two weeks ago just because he dared to replace party flag of anp on university building with national flag.

This not an ANP problem. Its a far greater problem of humanity. Partisanship. Being loyal to a group or a sect leads to selective blindness. All factions and groups eventually fall in this trap.

Iagree with you, but the reality is far from that. THe truth is that religeous, ethnic, political groups do gel togather not only in Pk and Afg but internationally. So we cannt just close our eyes.
