  • Peshawar considers building metro

PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is considering a modern overhead metro train service in Peshawar, officials said August 7.

"The track for the metro train project would start from Chamkani village and end at Hayatabad, covering almost the entire Grand Trunk Road or University Road that bisects the city," Provincial Transport Authority official Muhammad Aslam said.

Before the project can move forward, engineers and international investors need to consider the project's feasibility and the option of underground versus overhead, he said, adding that the project is vital because "the residents of Peshawar need a serious break from suffocating traffic jams."

I would rather say build a better circular railway something like upcoming in karachi

As Pakistan is all set to acquire the TOT of a Locomotive from south korea.
we can build them in mass numbers

Than connect cities like bannu and peshawar through rail.
And after 2020 when the GDP of KPK reaches to around 40billion dollars.let say after a decade.

invest in metro.as by than risalpur locomotive would have gained experience from lahore and karachi metro

would be cheaper to go ahead with local firm than foriegn

What does a feasibility study involve? A broader economic study to assess the need and what the project may contribute in terms of economic generation as the project seems to be of the type, as well as return on investment particularly any private investment would be more keen on valorization of the project. No one is going to invest hundreds of millions of dollars on 5000000 Pakistani Rupee return per month. That is my point.

I think for the reason "the residents of Peshawar need a serious break from suffocating traffic jams." he would be best served to provide as a practical and immediate need to people better and more hospitals, schools, and economic opportunities to ensure minimal standard of living for the wider population of the region. 2020 is only few years away. I don't take his words serious who ever he is

is this really needed? I mean the security situation in the whole country is so bad, I dont think anyone would even travel on this, it is a perfect target for terrorists. First fix terrorism and then build projects like these

This is actually not possible. Biggest hurdle is the security situation. Then the PTI's inexperienced and incompetent govt. They better first bring peace, good management and maintain and modify the existed roads etc.
Too much pollution and mismanagement you will see on peshawar roads.
