  • The Pashtunization of Pakistani Punjabis

Well this is something new i had noticed as i have started moving out of KPK and having punjabi's as friends.

My Punjabi or non pashtun friend dont even know the pashto language but still they listen to Pashto songs.they love pashto music.vis a vis the pakistani pashtuns extremely rarely listen to punjabi music

the Pakistani pashtuns never defend the Pakistani punjabi's but i am surprised to see the Pakistani punjabi's defending pashtuns in online forums and in person aswell.

In KPK punjabi cuisine is seen very rarely but Peshawari namkeen karahi and pashtunwali cuisine is very famous in lahore.

Pashto dance can be very well seen in saraiki people weddings.

i was in bahria university spring festival last year and was surprised to see that punjabi from punjab were dancing over pashto songs.

it seems like the pashtunization of Punjabi's has begun in Pakistan.

The old rivalry between Pashtun and punjabi is past tense.today the pashtuns making 22% of Pak army despite being only 14-15% of total Pak population making pashtuns the largest community in pak army by %age to population ratio is highest in pak army

    what do you guys think?

      Cuz Panjabis are wannabis Afghans/Pashtun

      They are butt kissers.

Also you have no idea. What you are doing is spreading propaganda. Having a few panjabi friends wont give you their accurate mindset about Pashtuns. Panjabis make fun of Pashtuns, they call them "Dumb". Haven't you read "Pashtun jokes" ?? The Pathan jokes?? which are spread all over Pakistan humilating Pashtuns ?? You have ZERO exposure.

Also in television they make fun of Pashtun urdu accent.

plus you are being biased and also panjabis are butt kissers and wannabees Pashtuns.

pashto music is famous throughout pakistan.and punjabi music is non existing in kpk and pashtuns dominated cities.

if so was the case than tell me how are 22% pashtuns in Pakistan army?how a ghulam ishaq from bannu was president of pakistan for 6 years and ayub khan aswell.

those are all poor people. Or brainwashed pashtuns who have been brainwashed at an early age in schools about the might of pakistan. Dis encouraging and misinforming them from their original afghan roots.

Also Afghanistan is completely destroyed. So there is no future there for them. And mostly poor people join the army. Or those parents who think that sending their kids to the army would change them and organize them into uniformity and obedience. Lots of other reasons....

              btw im from quetta.

Singing and dancing is how you define Pashtun identity. It is you who is punjabized for thinking like this.

                You are seriously misguided.

do you have any idea as to how hard is to get into Pak army?

We dont deny our afghan roots.but we karlani pashtuns always were part of FATA..
We were part of Afghanistan. But our pashtun brothers of afghanistan sold us to british just to save there a** under a agreement with british empires to not invade afghanistan.

This is how KPK and FATA and parts of quetta were merged with British India.

we Love our afghan brothers this is why there are still millions of afghan refugees in pashtuns dominated districts of Balochistan and KPK.

Afghanistan might be destroyed now but afghanistan has a very bright future.i hope for a peaceful afghanistan.

NOTE:By Afghan today i only meant the Pashtuns and tajik of afghanistan but not dirty people like uzbek.i dont consider them as our brother

you must be from the coastal parts of Balochistan.since quetta historically was known as godar and was dominated by pashtuns from the past many centuries.Baloch are thepeople of the coastal regions of balochistan

Are you high? Coastal are Mekranis. AKA Africans.

Please read a book about Balochistan. Quetta was indeed part of Afghanistan but other parts like Iranian sistan va Balochistan province, khuzdar, kalat, mastung are parts of Balochistan. Balochistan was ruled by Khan of Kalat (ruled by Baloch).

This guy is son of late Khan of Kalat and is still rulling Balochistan. Please read a book.

Coastals are Mekranis. This shows how misguided you are.

I have personally met the Khan and shaken his hands.

He is a huge man, and was very warm and friendly.

History of pathan jokes: Pakistani ISI created jokes againt indian sikhs to creat hatred between them and hindues. The indian inteligence agencies used the same jokes and replaced saradrs with pathans to give pakistan the taste of their own medicine. Yes, punjabies are influed by Pashtuns eg wearing shalwar kamiz instead of dhoti, practicing Jirga, using pashtun words
What really drives me hazy is it me or are the others crazy

                              1. Cultures are mixing in Pakistan and the main agent of that is urbanization i.e. the different ethnicities leaving their respective rural areas and mixing with each other in big cities.

However the city of Karachi is slightly different as on a political level (maybe not socially, Shebaz Khan would probably disagree) it is very polarized e.g. MQM v ANP & PPP.

                              2. Many Pashtuns are in fact Pashtunized "Punjabis" already i.e. when the Pashtun tribes conquered Pekhawar and other areas after migration from their homeland in Afghanistan the indigenous Hindkos, Potowaris and others became Pashtunized to a degree.

Many "Pashtuns" in Pakistan cannot be distinguished from Punjabis physically (though obviously the Shahid Afridi types can and that is more of the original Pashtun look).

                              3. There are Punjabis who are in origin Pashtuns but are now essentially Punjabis of Pashtun ancestry e.g. the Awans and also the Niazis of Mianwali and others.

On a political level will the federation of Pakistan survive or will it collapse like Yugoslavia or the USSR despite some Punjabis singing and dancing to nice Pashto songs?

Most Pashtuns in Pakistan want Pakistan to "work", to "succeed" i.e. a stable country with jobs and prosperity and also many/most think it is a religious duty to be united with other Muslims i.e. Punjabis etc.

Before 2001 Pashtun nationalism was very, very weak (not cultural pride in being Pashtun but a belief in a Pashtun state or Pashtun autonomy), then since the crisis in FATA and the rise of the TTP and instability of Pakistan it has grown. If Pakistan as a state fails to meet the needs of Pashtuns, Pashtuns will dump it.

That partly depends on whether militancy can be crushed or contained, or if militants bring the country down.
