OPIUM BRIDES - An immense tragedy generated by a trade in which the Taliban are now the biggest players.
'Opium Bribes' is a documentary from the beginning of the year 2013 by Najibullah Quraishi who is a journalist and a Human Rights activist from Kabul. In this documentary Mr. Quraishi reveals the hidden side of illigal drug-trading and the cruelty of drug-mafias who are mostly linked with the Taliban or with government officials. These criminal and powerful networks stem from south-eastern Afghanistan and extend to the other side of the border in Pakistan.
It also shows how drug-traders and local drug-barons force farmers to give up their daughters or sons or to pay them return of loans they served to the farmers. The children get mostly sold into prostitution to Iran, northern Afghanistan, Pakistan and to the Arab states. According to Najibullah Quraishi, every year up to 10 000 children get separated from their families and become victims of the mafia-gangs.
