  • Pakhtun Sunni and Shia wars...what is the history?

We are all well aware of the animosity and hostility between the Pakhtun Sunnis and Shias (Kurram/Parachinar.....Turi/Bangash tribes)

Recently there was an attack in Eastern Afghanistan on a bus full of Pakhtun Shias.

What is the history behind this conflict? I know that things have escalated since the Jihad times when religious secterianism has reached a high peak.

But was this conflict in existence before the 70s? Can some brothers from that region or with knowledge explain this further?

I don't think the Shia/Sunni clashes existed before 1979. They are a result of the sectarian outfits and policies of the Zia regime.

Very true, Malgariya. Many of the conflicts are proxy wars between Zia/Saudi and Iran.
