Just take a look at this forum. You see here Pakistani Nationalists, Afghan Nationalists etc, all of them engage in the kind of talks considered vulgar and immoral both by Muslims and non-Muslims.

Although a large part of Nationalists are outspoken Islamophobes, a significant part still claims to be a Muslim. Yet you see all of them behave in the exact same manner.

I agree with most of your premise. Islam 1400 years ago was as foreign to us, as communism or NATO is today. I'm sure we had patriotic people who bravely fought against the Arabization of our culture, language, religion, etc.
