Taliban Political Committee Chief Calls Attacks on Afghan Security Forces ?Impermissible?

On Sunday, the Taliban's Political Committee Chief, Motasim Agha Jan, said that his group's attacks on Afghan military and police forces were "impermissible" signaling a dramatic departure from their traditional stance in support of such tactics.

In an exclusive interview with TOLOnews, Agha Jan said that Afghan army and police forces are sympathetic to the plight of the Afghan people and should not be killed by the Taliban.

He added that the killing of civilians and Afghan security personnel in Taliban attacks is not a practice the group approves of.

"Taliban does not have enmity with the army and police forces or with Afghans because we [Afghans] are all brothers, Muslims and from the same country," Agha Jan told TOLOnews.

The Taliban leader went further to assert that if Afghans do not work together for peace and stability, internal conflict would plague the country. "If Afghans don't put the interests of the country first, I think our enemies will push us away from the religious and defensive war we are in, and into an internal war against ourselves," Agha Jan said.

In the past, the Taliban has heralded the killing of Afghan security forces as a great achievement. This marks the first time a senior figure of the group has publically stated that the killing of security forces is unwanted.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

    Two simple facts:

1- the guy was fired from his post in 2010.
2- he is not a scholar.

    Enough said.

      Dear Shamlawar Khurasani,

First of all, there is absolutely no truth to your comments. We cannot create a resolution out of anger and hostility. The only way out of conflict is through peace and reconciliation. Second, you wrote that Motasim is not a scholar to issue the decree. Several times, scholars from all over Islamic countries have issued decrees against suicide bombings and attacks on ordinary citizens and places of worship, calling it un-Islamic. Not too long ago the Saudi Mufti Sheikh Abdul Azia bin Sheikh, one of the highest ranking Islamic scholars said in his Haj sermon: “anyone who attempts or carries out a suicide attack will not be forgiven by God. The links below should enlighten your vision and support my point of view.
