I wonder how the patriotic redneck e-defender types like Toramana, Soldat, Hallo, Khostai will defend their loyal media's coverage on this one.

Court documents allege Stockham made threats in 2002 to blow up the Veterans Administration hospital in White River Junction and kill then-President Bush.
Michigan mosque plot suspect gets new lawyer | UTSanDiego.com

Police said when they pulled Stockham over, he was wearing a ski mask and had more than two dozen fireworks in his car, including M-80s, which are illegal in Michigan.
Joe Nahhas, a manager at the Detroit bar Stockham allegedly visited before his arrest, said Stockham claimed to have become a Muslim after returning from the Vietnam War and said he recognized that Stockham could speak at least some Arabic. He also said Stockham claimed to be part of a group of Indonesian mujahedeen, or holy warriors.
Stockham has had several violent run-ins with the law dating back to the 1970s, including one in which he kidnapped his son from a foster home and crashed a plane while trying to get away.
This sounds like the kind of guy who is motivated by the voices in his head.

Nonetheless, whilst I agree with your point overall, recognize that had this been a Muslim, the reaction in the media would have been different. Do you agree?

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

If it had been a Muslim with a history of insane behavior, equipped with whiskey and firecrackers in an attempt to somehow to blow up a large church, we would have more internet memes, animated gifs, and a skit from the Daily Show. I never give our media a pass but in this case there wasn't much coverage because there isn't much of a story. You want an example of a real media coverup, take a look at these:

Murder of Jan Pawel and Quiana Jenkins Pietrzak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Torture Murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom — A Young Couple Disappears — Crime Library on truTV.com

This gets very little coverage in the United States

Never even heard about this growing up:

I heard about USS Liberty. However, for obvious reasons, I didn't expect the media to cover it. Lets just say the owners strategic interests could be 'harmed'.

Did you learn of it pre-internet, is the Liberty incident common knowledge among US Muslims?

Siinii, tell me when a rape happends or a murder and it comes on the news, how often you hear that it was a 'Christians that gang raped a victim' or 'atheist robbed a bank' even when they have Christian/atheist backgrounds its never mentioned, but when an individual that has a background of being Muslim even if they are merely just muslim by name its 'Muslims that gang raped a victim' or 'Muslim robbed a bank'.. I remember reading an article of a white converted male that did a crime his official names were typical white names although after his conversion he had a middle name of Mohammad, in the news they coincidently chose to call him by his Muslim middle name.

You are denying that Muslims are demonised in the media and there is no selective journalism and broadcasting when it comes to Muslims but to me that opinion couldn't be more naive.

And the Knoxville case was well publicised I'm in the UK and I heard about it, the full trial was aired and i remember watching a long documentary on it on a main channel on cable.

Why would they report that in the US or UK? Might as well also say the perpetrators had two legs and two arms.

In the US we don't normally hear of the suspects religion unless it was a specifically religiously motivated crime. In the UK do they usually say 'Muslim' I normally read 'Asian' in the headlines of your news outlets.

Are Muslims demonized in the media? Maybe on Fox news. Aside from the occupation of Palestine I don't see an anti-Muslim bias, we see more Muslims in the news simply because there is more 'newsworthy' Muslim activity than other groups.

Take a look at the Stockholm riots currently in progress, newsmedia has been reporting this as 'immigrant' or 'youth' riots, where are these immigrant youths from? Why don't they just call it what it is, I mean these immigrants are they from Burma? Are they from Poland? Are they from Brazil?

Interesting re: Knoxville it was suppressed by the mainstream media in the US.

In summary there is selective journalism on many issues but as far as targeting Muslims specifically, exaggerating Muslim activity, I disagree that it happens.

If you don't like the mainstream media - what steps have to taken to de-legitimize them and create your alternative media sources of benefit to the perception of your Islamic people?

This is my last post for a while, I'll get to your response once I'm free.

                            SiiNii it goes both ways.

I think what the media does do... and we can likely agree on this... is work in tandem with the military and intelligence.

Its no longer the era of Sy Hersh. Instead you have Lara Logan and Anderson Cooper suiting up and pretty much doing jingoistic pieces instead of honest investigative pieces in the theater of war.

I think this is a key reason that David Petreus got away with so much. His plans escaped scrutiny because of the hero worship afforded these guys.

The demonization is more implicit. For instance, I think it would be perfectly valid for them to report these incidents and discuss the reason why these things happen. Its even fine for a sociologist to try and study these folks and hash out what common traits may catalyze their actions.

But at the end of the day, a few sentences are given to what these folks stated were their motives and the discussion gets immediatly shifted back to 72 virgins.

Rarely is there any insight or study referenced or data presented or historical reference given to these events. For instance, I think an astute investigate reporter would have delved into the historical aspects of these various parts of the world so that the American viewer understood with greater clarity the recentness of our involvement abroad.

For example: When discussing Iran - you can even see this in Hasmat's posts here: Time begins in 2009 and there is no historical aspect of the conflict between the US and Iran before that. The farthest they go back is to the Reagan era. If they offered up some historical insight into Operation Ajax and the coup that followed and how Iranians have a cemented historical memory that leads to their defensive posturing - I think most Americans would take that information and say at the end of the day 'Well we dont like em, but this is above our paygrade and its too complex - lets stay out of it'

Furthermore, there really isnt any hard hitting scrutiny except from such folks like Scheuer and a few others - but they usually get blasted by Limbaugh and others and harassed out of the public sphere.

Additionally, the Islam experts they bring on board are usually subpar and or wont explain the historical and religious realities.

Regarding news outlets - a few years back attempts were made by Al Jazeera to purchase some stations and they were blocked.

Even now, their station that will launch Al Jazeera America has had to Americanize their news to get carried by the major transmitters.

Or for instance, the corporate entities will elevate emigres like Hosseini or other pro interventionist work because these books dont offer complex realities on the histories of Afghanistan but do offer feel good propaganda...

The extent of this was revealed in the Mortsenson scandal.
