Afghanistan After The United States And NATO Leave: Economic Boomtown, Or A Disaster Waiting To Happen?

Afghanistan After The United States And NATO Leave: Economic Boomtown, Or A Disaster Waiting To Happen?

“Not everybody spoke English and I was lucky I did,” said Kabul-born and -raised Fahim Hashimi, practically the embodiment of this Afghan dream. “I was one of those people that knew how to go knock on ISAF’s door, download solicitations from websites, write proposals.”

His ascent began with a $600 contract for bedsheets. At 33, he now heads an empire, the Hashimi Group, with an average turnaround of approximately $200 million a year that includes not only fuel and construction businesses but also a TV station and the recently launched East Horizon, a low-cost domestic airline. “Afghanistan is a land of opportunities,” he said. ...

It is Afghan elite and patriots like Naderi, Hashimi, etc. engaged in rebuilding Afghanistan that losers like Mullah Barakzai, Khushal, Randolph etc. are jealous of and so want the return of Mullah Omar, Gulbo, etc.

One guy made a bunch of money off of international contracts? I've gotta go revise my entire position on Afghanistan and foreign policy in general.

“The best time to invest in Afghanistan is now,” said Khaleeq Ahmad, the executive vice president for wireless for Afghan Telecom, a company that’s part of the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology

former translators and interpreters working for U.S. forces at the beginning of the invasion, who then began using their money, connections and know-how to bid for military and development contracts.
The article didn't have much outside of mining, road building and other economic activities connected to government offices. I don't see how this is going to improve the situation of the average Afghan esp not the ones living in the south. How much foreign business investment is Afghanistan getting? I'd say thats a better indicator of a economic boom than foreign aid and government contracts.

So why do you poke your irritating nose into this affair ? And if Khushal, Randolph, and Mullah Barak (Lol ) don't mind my commentary on Afghanistan's affair, why does your butt start wobbling when I say things about Afghanistan?

And isn't it as a despicable Siraiki-Paki you are getting jealous seeing all those modern developments like 3G Internet in Afghanistan than my interference about which you pretend the concern that has caused that nasty rude response from you, which is so typical of you?

Mangakoray (rat), are you still locking your women folk inside your house lest they succumb to the lures of London or have you been able to overcome your sadistic misogynistic psychopathism?

I think its you who is poking nose in their matters more than necessary.....analysis on Afghan affairs is o.k only from lar pashtun prospective , dont become their "plaar"......

If Barakzai and others are not cheering for your favourite farangi then it is in accordance with their afghan nature, they have not forgotten their pashtun/afghan and muslim roots, you on the other hand have lost not only sense of pashto but also islam..........

I know you since 2005 from pashto.org times.....you never change, always poisonous comments against members , provoking them un-necessarily, .....tell me has it helped it in achieving Pashtun unity on the forums?....despite having so much knowledge and intellect, you always preferred to breed hate in their hearts rather than making them convinced and understand with truths in polite and decent manner......

For Toramana, taking potshots at BA is like doing the Sunday morning newspaper crossword puzzle. I can picture him at home on the couch at 9:30 AM in his Laz-e-boy recliner in fuzzy slippers, cup of hot tea on his left, directly in front the TV on CBS 'Sunday Morning' at a low volume, Macbook on his right thinking 'hmm how many ways can I irritate BA before brunch'?

He calls to his wife "Honey! I need to troll a Tali with at least five threads, any ideas?"

"Have you checked your pm box for messages from Aria or Hashmat?"

                    "Oh, what great idea snookums!"

Here is a true story, about 4 years ago I was curious to see how easy it was to get a contract in afg for some bs work. i created a company on paper, contacted the right people, put together proposals, quoted ridiculous prices in the 7 figures, conducted negotiations via email. it didn't take more than a few months to get the go ahead and basically being told the contract was on the way. i was floored, not only because of the huge amount of money involved but because of how easy it was. i stopped talking to these people once i knew they were serious about a commitment.

why is toramana stopping at showcasing the exploits of this hashimi guy? why doesn't he also include the fahims, dostums, karzai bros, or the petty warlords who have gotten rich off of foreign contracts. better yet, how about the taliban who make millions off of these contracts.

                      jealous? talk about reaching.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
