  • Notice to PF posters: Big Brother is watching

Just in case you forgot or didn't know, is past due time to start looking into encrypted email, TOR, VPN and other technologies important to our freedom.

Are all telephone calls recorded and accessible to the US government? | Glenn Greenwald | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk

On Thursday night, Clemente again appeared on CNN, this time with host Carol Costello, and she asked him about those remarks. He reiterated what he said the night before but added expressly that "all digital communications in the past" are recorded and stored:
Let's repeat that last part: "no digital communication is secure", by which he means not that any communication is susceptible to government interception as it happens (although that is true), but far beyond that: all digital communications - meaning telephone calls, emails, online chats and the like - are automatically recorded and stored and accessible to the government after the fact. To describe that is to define what a ubiquitous, limitless Surveillance State is.

and now for our regularly scheduled two minutes of hate:

Sometimes I feel like my professors are simply cannon-fodders; I wonder how Professor Lee feels about this. I need to definitely swing by CSAIL one of these days.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

You'd be surprised, algorithms is a very unique field. You can sort, and find what you want in minutes, with the right algorithm.

Were you using search engines before google appeared? Back in 1997 they were completely useless so I thought the same thing as you, that there is so much info out there it's impossible for a person working alone to find anything in it. Just over a decade later if you can't find the answer on google, chances are humanity hasn't yet answered the question.

You are right and so is Glen Greenwalnd. Its a simple process... in the digital era a phone call is just bits and bytes.

Wired broke this story to corroborate Greenwald's musings nearly a year ago.

I agree to an extent. I don't really want to get into it, but suffice to say, the intelligence community is still a bureaucracy manned by bureaucrats. That being said, I'm sure certain actions can garner more attention from them - like repeated calls overseas, trips to the Voice of Jihad website, writing the word "jihad" on pashtunforums haha - but though it may make me feel uneasy, ill worry about after I wake up to the ol' waterboard. Until then, ill just keep digging, writing, and bitching.
