What do you guys think about this in terms of probability and details. I think this is where being from the region helps one filter through the details.
So first off, I think it very improbable that Iran is behind this as their shiite reactionary crowd hates the sunni reactionary crowd and vice versa.
The names of the two arrested are:
Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, and Raed Jaser, 35
The surname Esseghaier is Tunisian in origin I think.
Iran has a very tight security apparatus and monitors sunni elements very closely (which is why the ejected Hekmetyaar).
So this boils down to either
1) Iran throwing the West a bone to get it off its back
2) An attempt to somehow convince the public Iran is a threat in the hopes that informed people dont read between the lines and ask questions
It might very well be 1) since they recently expelled some high level sunni reactionary individuals and those same folks ended up in the hands of US security.
Which may raise the question of whether these guys were up to anything at all in the first place if their supposed contacts were under such tight control.
