Actually that depends on a lot of things. In the west a married afghan couple might go and live together somewhere else but close to their parents. In Afghanistan it is different since it is the norm there. Not every body wants to live with their parents, since new weds need to start there own family most of the time. Also a Pashtun woman is allowed to visit her parents after marriage.

I am only referring to afghans in the rural areas. The reasons afghans in the west move out of the home is because they are in the west. The economics are different. In the rural areas in afghanistan, it is not practical to leave the parents alone,it would be very hard for them to survive and also they are needed in raising their grandchildren. The need is mutual. This need is extinguished in the west. There are institutions like child care, elderly care facilities and both parents work plus unlike in the rural areas of afghanistan, many couples in the west choose not to have many kids.

Well considering I'm Pashtun and Pashtuns would there in be "my family" on some level, then yes I guess you have a point.
