Some qualitative data can be collected, but generalization of results to a wider population will always be biased. Obtained results could be applied to very narrow context and area. I think that there is not such methodology which can deal with the specifity of Pashtun tribalism. There are no methods which could adjust processed data for tribalism.
Also, sociologists, because of lack of extended training in Afghanology or '"Pashtunology" are not able to refer to the results. Stricte etnographic knowledge is also insufficient.
In other words, reports from such studies will be always unadequate.

I've heard about this report but haven't read it, because I tend to ignore Human Terrain Team productions.
I think your criticisms are faulty; because you're looking at "Western vs. Eastern" , something being Western doesn't make it automatically incorrect. You have to look at it from correctness of methodology not Eastern or Western.

So your reasoning for why it is inadequate, is itself inadequate.

    • ^ RTR, if we talk about methodology - methodology of surveys is my first background. I also have over 10 years of practice, including study design, data collection, processing etc. I worked as well in epidemiology, social and commercial studies in few places in the world. I know about studies which failed because applied methodology didn't take into account local conditions or finally study couldn't be carried out because of specific features of given study area. My experience makes me thinking that I am right.
But of course you don't have to agree with me

      • Well that's good Yasmeenah, but you haven't really provided a cogent reason why the methodology is wrong here except it's "western" , which even then I would argue the goal was to study so that they can be more ACCOMMODATING to the customs of Afghans so I don't think "Western Bias" can be used here.

              1. I missunderstood your words - you wrote that study was done by sociologists etc. So I thought it was more like a real field study. Finally I read the beginning and I have to admit that methodology is poorly described. I don't know who were informants, in which areas study was carried out, what was the background of HTT etc. Usually such things are described in methodology section. In my terms it is not a study.

              2. This so called study is also based on existing articles. A weird mixed methodology. BTW, the Los Angeles Times article they quote is the best thing I ever read about "homosexuality" in Pashtun society, and it doesn't pretend to be a scientific paper. If you want I can post it here. Journalists did much better job!

3.Ok, you are righ, in this case I shouldn't oppose Western vs Eastern. I should rather say that this writings doesn't have any reliable methodology.

Ps. I was not going to provided anything. I only said what I think about your post.

                Yes

1.) the part about sociologists was to those who use the "propaganda" excuse; you know how people like Khushal, Kushan and Gladstonezai love to use that avoidance tactic.

2.) You still have not demonstrated what was wrong with the methodology. The Methodological Assessment is in the beginning if you care to demonstrate the error behind it. And even then, how severe the error is when it comes to diverting from accuracy is also important.

3.) Well since you have some experience in studying the veracity of research techniques I'd like to see a replete assessment if you have the time.

p.s. I still failing to see what is erroneous here, you haven't explained much. The study refers to the widespread culturally enshrined practice. Whether you agree or disagree, the evidence of its widespread cultural acceptance is undeniable. The Study just gives a concise description for it.

You didn't know that Sufism exists amongst Pashtuns
You didn't know that Pashtuns did the Attan dance
You didn't know Pashtuns play music.
                  You have a Pakistani passport

The evidence is against you here. Or maybe you' just like the aspects of Pashtun culture that abuses women and leaves little boys open for your disposal? Jerry Sandusky was also married and he molested boys; how does that contradict the fact Pashtuns force women into marriages which leads to rape despite widespread pedastry? I think te problem here is you're logically inept rather than me not knowing what I'm talking about. Don't worry your steroid monkey head, concentrate your efforts on your steroid shriveled organs and self delusion.

Ok lets put a picture up of me and you on a poll thread, we'll see who looks more Pashtun.

"You blah blah blah", "You blah blah blah" etc ... Act your age you immature 5'2 little idiot.

As for the rest of your BC all you need to know is this - if a few backwards, evil pashtun people are practicing bachabazi it does not give you a justification to label it a part of Pashtun culture.. and you call yourself educated.

I think it's no contest the men in those videos were Pashtun. Although the Bacha looks very Tajik.

Well here is a picture of a Pashtun standing side by side with a Panjshiri. We can play picture games all you want but it's not going to get us anywhere. You just need to make a trip to Afghanistan.

Just like your errant belief that Pashto Qataghani doesn't exist? I think we've seen enough evidence of your incorrectness to safely dispel your claim. You can give up now, there's no salvaging the pompous Pashtun ego.

                        • Lol, there is no such thing as Pashto qataghani. Naghma is a Pashtun singer that has sang Dari Qataghani for Tajik audiences is more like it. And Jawad Sharif is a Tajik who creatively set a Pashto song up to Qataghani for the first time. If you don't know where Qataghani is listened to and where it comes from, you know zilch about Afghanistan.

                          • The uploaders of such videos use foreign videos and label them with Pashtun titles to malign Pashtuns because they think that the general public are too unfamiliar to know the difference. They post Arabic, Tajik, Punjabi videos and just label them with derogatory titles associating them with Pashtuns. And people not very familiar like you end up believing it all.

act my age? you say that now ONLY after your attempt at scrutinizing me backfired and ended up smacking you across your pea-brained head.

the only type of people who need polls to determine if they look Pashtuns are people insecure of their ancestry. So I don't care if you're actually a Hazara, just don't get pompous. Yes Bacha Bazi is apart of Pashtun culture. It's widely accepted, read Pashto poetry, tons of " taka spina halek" type of references.

Heck with your hatred for women and wanting to hide women from public view; re you sure the reason you're not antsy about the whole bacha bazi thing is because you yourself were once victim of such abuse? I feel pity for you child.

I posted several videos most were in Pashto. ...please stop trying to pretend like the evidence wasn't presented. LOL

The only reason people sing in Pashto is to SING to a Pashtun audience. ....you aren't fooling anyone. Heck you're probably one of those pedophilic boy predators trying to cover your tracks.
