JI flays crackdown against tribesmen
=====================================
Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has strongly condemned the crackdown against the tribesmen in Provincial Capital and urged government to stop harassment of tribesmen in the settled areas. “Around 400 tribesmen from Mohammand Agency were arrested in last two day while the crack down is still continued. Tribesmen are being harassed and tortured in police stations whereas dozens of them secured their release after paying to police,” JI Naib Ameer and former MNA from Bajaur Agency Haroon-ur-Rashid told a news conference here on Friday.
Tribesmen, he said were equal citizens of the country as constitution had given them all the rights like other citizens but unfortunately they had been deprived and being treated like 2nd class citizens. “They are being humiliated after coming to the settle areas to seek refuge with the start of military operation all tribal belts,” Haroon-ur-Rashid said adding tribesmen had been paying price for the war which had been fought for “American” interest.
JI leader said around three million people had been internally displaced since launch of the so-called war on terror whereas 7 thousands of tribal persons had been killed and 15 thousand wounded in this war but still no change in situation had been observed. “ Their houses have been destroyed, they have become refugees, still one million people from Fata are living as IDPs in Peshawar, Nawshera, D.I.Khan and other districts of the province but their humiliations is still being continued,” he observed.
Haroon-ur-Rashid demanded of the government to stop operations in Fata and negotiate with those who picked guns as use of force will not help to bring peace. “USA and NATO is now talking about negotiation but it opposes dialogue in Pakistan, which reflects their double standard,” he opined. He said the future of tribal youth had been at stake as around 6 lakh students could not attended educational institutions since operation was launched in Fata. “ a generation has been deprived of education as they could not continued their education due to uncertain situation in Fata,” he informed.
To a question JI leader said all of the arrested persons were innocents and they were arrested on different checkpoints while they were traveling to Peshawar. “Even traders who used to make purchase for their shops in Peshawar are being kept in police lockups,” he told.
