That´s a pretty good question.
It´s always easier to attach yourself with something that people consider successfull, valued and good.
I know alot of people who consider themselves Pashtun although they aren´t Pashtun by tongue, ethnicity and culture.
They consider being Pashtun as more honourfull and respected.
Identity can be shaky.
Salute to those who don´t switch loyalties during times of change and decline.....The only constant is change.

Everyone gave good answers and I respect that but I think one should always know where they came from and be proud of it. I will never understand those afghans
That say they are (Indian paki or Brit/American) but u know like they say whatever floats ur boat, I heard alot of people associate them selves with those countries that gave them something like (welfare/housing/greencard or other goods/services) for free
This trend was especially popular in USA in the time of 911 we came here a year after but people in the afghan community was telling others that they were not afghan, but we must understan we are what we are no matter if someone likes it or not.
Also I think we are lacking good role models in our communities or places we live, we hang out with those that harm us the most and now a days all the old folks like (haji, hajanai) they are busy with their businesses and fishin :-/ ok so myfamily goes to this old Folks house every eid and I go there in the hopes of learning something like adab and about culture because they are like in their late 80s so u can actually learn from them cuz they seen it all amd done it all but every year I get disappointed because all the discussions go regularly who did what and what happened where:/
I had no grand parents so I had high hopes but no that's not how it is now, now every society has became bland no one will tell u things that u may benefit from because every one wants to see u fail and so they can talk of u in the next memaniLast edited by Pisho; 12-04-2012, 04:00 PM.
