Afghanistan's Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Ismail Khan on Thursday said that the process of creating a military unit made up of the former mujahedeen fighters is underway to protect and secure Afghanistan because Nato had failed to do so.

Ismail Khan said in a gathering with former regional Jihadi commanders in west and southwest Afghanistan that the Mujahedeen should also be given more roles in the government as the foreign armies – the Nato-led international security assistance force Isaf – had failed to ensure stability in the country.

He emphasised that just as the Mujahedeen had previously driven out the foreign invaders, the Soviets, so too there was now a need for the Mujahedeen to again rescue the country from "foreign conspiracies".

"The foreigners sidelined those who had fought for ages," Ismail Khan said in western Herat province.

"They collected all our weapons, our artillery and tanks, and put them on the rubbish heap. Instead, they brought Dutch girls, French girls, girls from Holland, they armed American girls, they brought white-skinned Western soldiers, and black-skinned American soldiers, and they thought by doing all this they would bring security here but they failed," he added.

Khan claimed that President Hamid Karzai is aware of the plans to re-form the mujahedeen armed forces.

"We have had detailed discussions with President Hamid Karzai, who is a Mujahed himself. We are planning on this strategy and the registration of people is underway," he said.

He added that the future Afghan president to be introduced at the next election in 2014 should be elected in close collaboration with the Mujahedeen council.

The Council is understood to have been formed by Ismail Khan, himself a former Jihadi commander in Herat.

Taliban's return to power in Afghan likely: ex-Indian diplomat

        http://www.indianexpress.com/news/ta...lomat/1025860/
The Taliban is likely to return to power "fairly quickly and easily" in Afghanistan after the exit of US-led NATO forces from the war-torn country, former Indian foreign secretary Krishnan Srinivasan has said.

He made the comments while answering questions on his recently published memoirs 'Diplomatic Channels' at an event at the Nehru Centre here last night.
Gazing at a crystal ball on Afghanistan, Srinivasan, also a former deputy secretary general of the Commonwealth, forecast the return of the Taliban and an ouster of the Hamid Karzai government after the exit of western forces from the country at the end of 2014.
"The Taliban are likely to return to power fairly quickly and easily," he remarked.

Srinivasan, however, added that while he anticipated Taliban dominance in the Pushtun region of Afghanistan, he foresaw a re-emergence of the Northern Alliance in Mazar-e-Sharif and other parts of the country, thereby witnessing a return of status quo ante.
India has provided USD 2 billion of assistance to Afghanistan since the overthrow of the Taliban in the aftermath of the al-Qaeda attack on the US in September 2001.

A comeback by the Taliban, which is known to be pro-Pakistan, is, thus, unlikely to be good news for India.
Commenting on India's chances of getting a permanent seat at the UNSC, Srinivasan said, "India's permanent membership of the UNSC is not imminent, it's quite far away. India should atthis point of time be satisfied with being a pre-eminent power in its region."
Srinivasan's book has created a stir because of its candidness and unsparing criticism of some of the politicians he worked with during his time as foreign secretary in 1994-95, particularly former President Shankar Dayal Sharma and former Minister of External Affairs Dinesh Singh.

Afghanistan's senators on Sunday criticised the plans for a Mujahedeen military unit as claimed last week by former jihadi commander and current Minister of Energy and Water Ismail Khan, saying it went against Afghanistan's national interests.

The Senators emphasised that improving the abilities of the Afghan National Security Forces is the only way to protect the country after 2014 while the formation of any other form of private army would only spread chaos.

"We should focus on strengthening the government and security forces which we believe is the only way to respond to the challenges after 2014," Senate First Deputy Chair of Mohammad Alam Ezedyar said.

"It's against the national interests of the country. I am against its formation," Senator Shir Mohammad Akhundzada said.

The senators also believe that Afghan National Security Force will lose their credibility and meaning if such an unit is formed.

"If Mujahedeen's military unit is formed, it will undermine the presence of Afghan National Security Forces," Senator Hedayatullah Rehahi said.

"The formation of such councils creates fresh challenges and chaos in the country," Afghan Senator Dawood Asas said.

Ismail Khan on Thursday said in a gathering in western Herat province that because the Nato-led soldiers had failed to protect and secure the country, he is working with others to form a military unit drawn from former Mujahedeen leaders and fighters.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

KABUL (PAN): Meshrano Jirga members on Sunday lashed out at Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Ismail Khan’s plan to set up a council of mujahideen.
Last week, the minister said peace could not be ensured without the cooperation of mujahideen after the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.
Addressing a gathering in western Herat province, Khan said he was working on the mujahideen council and had discussed the idea with the president and some ex-jihadi leaders.
But a senator from southern Helmand province, Sher Mohammad Akhundzada, denounced the proposed council as a step against the Afghan people and government.
The Helmand people, who participated in Thursday’s meeting in Herat, in no way represented the province, the legislator insisted.
Akhundzada asked the minister: “Show me a single dam that you have built. When you couldn’t do this, how come you form a council of mujahideen?”
He claimed Khan had invited a handful of people from Helmand and Kandahar to the meeting, but called them representatives of the entire southern zone. “This is unacceptable to us.”
A public representative from central Bamyan province, Hidayatullah Rehaee, also saw no need for creating the shura in the presence of the Afghan army, police and intelligence.
If established, the council would raise questions about the government’s security organs, the lawmaker said.
Mohammad Daud Hassas, a senator from southern Zabul province, said the masses should not be deceived again in the name of the mujahideen council, whose proponents were trying to push the country into a new crisis. Infighting among the jihadi leaders in the 1990s had damaged the cause of jihad.
Those speaking on people’s behalf should accord primacy to the supreme national interest, Deputy Chairman Mohammad Alam Ezedyar remarked, without naming anyone.
The system should be strengthened to bring security to the country, he said. “We should work to make the system foolproof and enhance the capacity and strength of the Afghan army, police and intelligence."
He also called for addressing concerns among the people about the situation after the 2014 withdrawal of NATO-led forces from the country.

it doesn't sound so bad considering pashtuns back stabbed each other and that khan was imprisoned by the taliban for a couple of years before he escaped.

he's done more for Afghanistan and bettering Afghan people in a single year, even if only in Herat than Mullah Umar has in in nearly 20 years.

the criminal gangs who should be hung are Lang Mullah and the ISI that enable him.
