Pak army's 'flip-flop,' now says no operation will be launched in North Waziristan

    Islamabad , Sat, 25 Aug 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Aug 25 (ANI): The Pakistan army has reportedly announced that no military operation will be launched in the country's North Waziristan region, despite having vowed to take on militants in the area only a few days back.
According to a statement attributed to the Army Headquarters, Miranshah, troops were not in North Waziristan to start operation, but to carry out uplift projects.
The radio quoted Army sources as saying that development will be done with the help of tribesmen, the Nation reports.
According to the paper, the Pakistan army advised people not to listen to the speculations about the operation.
The radio also said Western media was hell-bent to destroy Pakistan.
Neither the Pak Army nor ISAF will be allowed to launch any operation in North Waziristan, it added. (ANI)

MIRANSHAH: Senior military officials here on Friday rejected reports about the launching of military operation in North Waziristan Agency and urged the tribal people to ignore all such reports.

Talking to The News on condition of anonymity, they said there was no truth in media reports that the government was planning to undertake military operation in North Waziristan.

They said the western media in order to create hatred among the patriotic tribespeople of North Waziristan for the armed forces had been speculating about the military operation in Waziristan. The military officials said Pakistan Army had initiated a number of mega development projects in Waziristan for the welfare of the people, but some elements opposed to prosperity of the tribespeople wanted to see bloodshed in the tribal region.

“The military has no intention of launching an operation in NWA. Waziristan is part of Pakistan and the armed forces are enjoying cordial relations with the local people,” asserted a senior military officer.

He urged local people, particularly those fleeing homes and villages for fear of military operation in Waziristan, not to take these media reports seriously as basic purpose of the armed forces in the tribal region was to secure Pakistan’s western frontiers and work for welfare of the people and development of the tribal region.

“We urge the tribespeople not to flee their houses and stay in their homes and villages in Waziristan as no body is going to touch them. The people of Waziristan are as patriotic and loyal to Pakistan as are the rest of the people in the country,” the official explained.

Authorities and local political administration also appealed the tribal people through a local Pashto language radio in Miranshah not to flee homes. Most of the people took a sigh of relief after this report was aired on the local radio.
