    Pakistan condemned for banning website

KABUL (PAN): Afghan journalists have strongly condemned Pakistan’s move
to shut down a Pashtu website that releases news, opinion and articles on
    regional issues.

A statement from the Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association said
the ban on “Khabaryal” was against the freedom of speech and
    international conventions on human rights.

The website’s operators said Pakistani internet companies had also blocked
the webpage in parts of Afghanistan. The association said the closure was
a clear violation of the freedom of speech.

Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Daudzai and Communications Minister
Amirzai Sangin had repeatedly requested Pakistani authorities to lift the
ban, but to no avail, the statement said.

“It seems that Pakistan clings to its stance on international conventions,”
    the journalists’ association said.

Quoting officials of the website, the statement said the page did not open
in Pakistan and some eastern Afghan provinces.

The association said it believed Khabaryal’s role in bringing the two nations
closer had been effective and it helped removed misunderstandings
between people of the two countries.

“The world has shrunken into a global village. The era of media censorship
has gone,” the statement said, asking Pakistani authorities to lift the ban
    on the webpage immediately.

Would be interesting to know Pakistan's reasons. Not that I agree with the banning of information.

Pakistan had a go at banning Facebook some time back. You cannot ban people's willingness to copy and paste. People are clever; they will reproduce the news elsewhere on the Internet.

      Kudos to Maulana Diesel.

Only weak and insecure states find the need to ban websites. Unfortunately, covering one's eyes and ears from the inconvenient truth has become a part of the Pakistani psyche now.

Shame on the government. You cant suppress information.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

We in BD face the same situation. All our TV Channels are "technically" banned in India. Whenever our Govt picks up the subject Indian Govt says the cable operators are free to do as they like. And on the quiet these operators have been instructed to block all BD channels. Even our books and newspapers are similarly prevented from reaching readers. On our side we allow all channels, books and newspapers of all countries including India.
