  • Nawaz, Imran Khan assured me of a pro-US government: Munter

KARACHI: US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter, when asked by the BBC regarding the possibility of an anti-US government in Pakistan in case Nawaz Sharif or Imran Khan get elected in 2013 elections, said that he has met both the leaders who have assured a pro-US government.
During an interview with the BBC Urdu on Tuesday, Munter said that the US is not against Pakistan, rather it wants Pakistan to be independent, so it can efficiently take action against the militants hiding in tribal areas along the Afghanistan and Pakistan border.

“By independent, I mean that the Pakistani leadership, along with the Pakistan Army, should have complete control over its territories… It is important that Pakistan’s political and military leadership defeats these terrorists. And, we want to help Pakistan with it,” said Munter.

The Ambassador who is set to retire early from his post, said that the reopening of Nato supply routes is not the end and the US still needs to deal with terrorists in Pakistan. He stressed that Pakistan needs to be a part of the solution, not the problem.

When reminded that the US is against the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline, Munter said, “if you talk to Pakistani leaders, you will get to know that there is no shortage of electricity in the country. It only needs good management, improvements and new rates.”

And that deflates Ghundal's aka UnknownPrince's aka etc. etc. etc. wishful thinking and effort to lionize and paint Imran Khan as an Islamist hero.

It is good that you are crossing on your mate Ghundal's bigging up of this ISI puppet. I don't know what your end is with your support for Taliban, but his you need to believe it is looking it from ISI's lense and Paki interest. Seems like a very strange common ground, eh?

And here is another source, which reports it categorically.

The United States Ambassador in Pakistan Cameron Munter Tuesday said that talks did not end at Nato supply restoration, adding that there was a lot to do for economic development, and to eliminate terrorism.

The US ambassador revealed that Imran Khan, PTI chief, and Nawaz Sharif, PML-N President, both were supporters of United States. He said that he has held meetings with Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif, added that, both the leaders assured that they completely support US.

Munter further said that Pakistan has to become part of solution not problem.

In an interview, the US envoy cleared that they have to work together to eliminate insurgents' hideouts inside Pakistan so as to ensure assistance in Afghan war.

Munter said that they did not want to increase or decrease the value of Nato supply route.

When asked had Pakistan placed demands to reopen Nato route, he said that he was not present in the meeting in which the matter was discussed.

He said the Nato attack on Salala check-post was taken in hustle. He said that blockade of Nato supply had split away Pakistan from 50 friends countries.

Replying another question, he said that Hilary Clinton's statement was present over Salala attack.

Imran responded to that saying go and wait for the new Wikileaks cables to see what said - the same what he said from the other Wikileaks

That is friendly I think and there is nothing wrong with helping in the exit
