Brian Becker gets it wrong though when he says American support for the war is withering. I disagree. As long as the "man in the cave" is being "chased", Americans would want the war to continue. Can you picture this though? NATO (the most advanced military coalition in the world) is busy looking for a bearded man in a cave.
American causalities in Afghanistan, when compared to those of Iraq or Vietnam, are next to nothing. I think the dragging on of the war is something that could have a major impact but I can't say... In any case, the withdrawal of American forces would result in an all-out brawl between foreign proxies. I feel sorry for the Afghan state and its citizens.
