Massoud's Day renamed as Martyrs Day

KABUL (PAN): The Wolesi Jirga decided on Wednesday former jihadi commander Ahmad Shah Massoud’s death anniversary would be marked as Martyrs Day.
Massoud, who fought against Soviet troops, was assassinated on September 9, 2001, two days before the 9/11 attacks on the US. Later, parliament gave him the title of Afghanistan’s National Hero.

Mujib Rahman Samkani, deputy head of the commission on health, sports, youth and labour, said the government has suggested Sept. 9 be declared a national holiday.
Parliamentarians thoroughly discussed the suggestion, with some wanting Sept. 9 declared "Martyrs Day" and others asking for observing the day as Massoud’s Martyrdom Day.

Sakhi Mashwani, an MP from eastern Kunar province, insisted the day should be named as Martyrs Day. "Many Afghans have been martyred. If we have to honour all of them, we will have holidays all year round."

First Deputy Speaker Zahir Qadir, who chaired the session, asked for a vote on the issue. Ninety of the 127 MPs present voted for the day being declared Martyrs Day.
September 9 was declared a public holiday after by the Cabinet last year, Ali Iftikhari, the spokesman for Ministry of Labour, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

It was a good move by the parliament. It looks like Panjshiri domination of our politics is slowly coming to an end.

Good riddance. Wise move by the parliament.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

In either case, they are commemorating Massods death. They are singling his death out as one that Afghanistan SHOULD observe, but on the other hand they are supporting the NATO/Karzai war which has resulted in so many civilian casualties, primarily Pashtuns.

How does anything they say matter? When they do say something, it serves the agenda of Tajik nationalists.

They seek to divide the country along ethnic lines rather then unite the country along faith.

Whether he deserves a day dedicated to honoring him is irrelevant as individuals as guilty if not more are walking free all over the country with their heads held high, with out anyone questioning them.
No doubt that if he was alive he would have had his own share at looting whatever is left of Afghanistan at this point. That his believers want a day to commemorate him, meh.. There are far more ridiculous things happening in Afghanistan that people have no intention of giving any importance to.
What I fail to understand is how anyone can claim that this decision is an attempt to divide the afghan people. If anything, I see it as an opportunity for afghans to honor all and perhaps it's true martyers rather than the one that three out of five cant even agree as of being one.

P.s, anyone who finds it nessecary to bring up the subject of afghans and division every chance they get and where the subject is not called for is the one with the intention of divinding afghans. Specially when they have no proof of being an afghan and lack the ability to speak either of the official languages of Afghanistan, are seriously committed to passing on a certain idea and tend to repeat the same terms over and over again. A good example of such an individual would be lynxs also known as ghundal and unknown prince.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

You seems to play likely the role of a troll... it´s not about Panjsheris, it´s more about the rights of an entire ethnicity.. such as you criminals celebrate criminals and mass murders like Abdali as your heroes, so do other ethnicities, too. The day was named to Massoud Day... Awghan Mellati fascists like you wishs that the day should be renamed to Martyrer Day but this is absolutely wrong and thus people chose Massoud Day

Afghanistan's Parliament on Saturday voted to reinstate Ahmad Shah Massoud's name to the national holiday of September 9, just days after voting to remove it.
September 9 is the anniversary of Massoud's assassination in 2001 and has been observed in Afghanistan as Massoud Day since 2001 when the Afghan Interim Government awarded him the title of "Hero of the Afghan Nation".
The following year he was nominated for the internationally-recognised Nobel Peace Prize.
But last Wednesday, lawmakers voted to remove his name from the day's official title, replacing it with a more generic title to honour all those killed or "martyred" in the fight for Afghanistan.
The Parliament debated the matter again on Saturday and the name was restored. The full title is "The day of the martyrdom of Ahmad Shah Massoud".
The lawmakers said that the holiday still honours all those "martyred" for Afghanistan and it was is in the nation's interests to continue to mark this day.
Some said it could prevent tribal conflicts in the embattled country.
"September 9 should be named as the day of the martyrdom of the national hero of Afghanistan - this will benefit our national interests," Kabul MP Mohammad Younus Qanoni told TOLOnews.
Massoud was born in 1953 in the Bazarak district of Panjshir province. He became a political and military leader in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation when he returned after a brief stin t in Pakistan to fight against the invasion. The Panjshir valley is known for having never fallen to Soviet control, largely because it terrain made it difficult to penetrate.
He went to Kabul after successfully driving out the Soviet's in 1989. But after several years of civil war in Kabul and other provinces, he returned to Panjshir when Kabul fell to the Taliban and formed a resistance front.
He fought the Taliban for almost five years but was assassinated by two Arab suicide bombers allegedly linked to Al-Qaeda in northern Takhar province on September 9 2001, just two days before the attacks on the US World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Your days can be count and are nears to an end ... not those of the ''evil Panjsheris'', the guardians of your mothers bed-rooms don´t forget, without NA, you would today eat 24h Daal and your native language would be the sme as half of your Pathan Paki cousins... Urdu.

well if there is an aids day, it would only make sense that there would be a massoud day.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.
