Taliban are Pak Army proxies, not Pashtun nationalists - III

In the aftermath of 9/11, Pakistan was forced to fight the Taliban. Pakistani generals accommodated the immediate US concerns about Al Qaeda but also continued a low profile relationship with the Afghan Taliban to preserve them for strategic depth in Afghanistan after the US had left the country. They managed to play the double role by creating a 'managed chaos' in FATA that made the region too insure for independent observation from the outside and too frightening for the local tribal people to share information with the outside world. It was systematically propagated in Pakistani media that 'fiercely autonomous' tribes in the 'weakly governed' FATA have given refuge in line with the code of Pashtunwali to the fleeing militants from Afghanistan in defiance of the Pakistani state. All this is utter nonsense.

Not even a single tribe in FATA gave refugee to any militants. People who cooperated with the militants were individuals within tribes. These individuals have longstanding links with the military establishments and their tribes have no control over them. For example, Maulana Noor Muhammad from South Waziristan was openly urging the tribes in his Friday sermons to support the militants following their escape in the area.

South Waziristan was the first FATA agency where the 'managed chaos' was imposed to construct a fake popular support for the militants. While most people watched the activities of the militants as unconcerned bystanders, it were the local Waziri Pashtun nationalists and other sensible local tribal people who foresaw the danger in such activities and began to educate people about them. At this point mysterious targeted killing of such anti-Taliban people began in 2003. The first anti-Taliban tribesman who was target killed in 2003 was Farooq Wazir, the local leader of the Pashtun nationalist Pashtunkhwa Mili Awami Party, PMAP, who had publicly declared in response to Maulana Noor Muhammad's sermons that no militants will be allowed to enter the city centre of Wana, capital of South Waziristan.

Between 2003 to 2007, over 200 political activists, including tribal leaders in South Waziristan were target killed under mysterious circumstances never investigated by the government of Pakistan. The common denominator among them is that they all were anti-Taliban. Their families hold the ISI responsible for their killing. Many of the eliminated anti-Taliban people were local activist of Pashtun nationalist political parties, PMAP and ANP. Mahmud Achakzai, leader of PMAP, repeatedly visited Waziristan to attend the funeral ceremonies of his assassinated party workers.

At the time of his arrival in South Waziristan as a Taliban commander, Baitullah Mehsud could not even speak Pashto in the typical Mehsud dialect
When the 'managed chaos' had to be shifted to the Mehsud area of South Waziristan, the intelligence authorities could not even find a suitable local Mehsud to 'crown' as Taliban commander. Thus a non-local Mehsud, Baitullah Mehsud, was chosen for the purpose on the recommendation of Maulana Mirajudin, an establishment linked Mehsud cleric. Although originally from South Waziristan, Baituallah's family had settled in Bannu for a long time. At the time of his arrival in South Waziristan as a Taliban commander, Baitullah could not even speak Pashto in the typical Mehsud dialect. He used to speak Banuchi - the Bannu Pashto dialect. Later during his stay in Waziristan as a terror leader he learned the Mehsud dialect.

Taliban apologists, such as PTI leader Imran Khan, have been claiming that Taliban militancy in Waziristan is inspired by Faqir of Ipi, the Waziri tribesman who led Waziristan's armed resistance to the British. This is a misleading claim. The Faqir's struggle was basically nationalist despite his religious orientation. This is the reason that descendents of the Faqir's family have disassociated themselves from the Taliban militancy, implying that Taliban have no ideological connections with the Faqir. Moreover, descendents of the close associates of the Faqir, all of them Pashtun nationalists linked with PMAP and ANP, have been target killed for their public anti-Taliban stance. One of them, Mirza Alam had been approached by the military authorities in Wana to give them one of his sons or nephews for leadership of the Waziri Taliban. He refused and later was killed along with six members of his family.

In North Waziristan, unlike South Waziristan, there was almost no local resistance to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. This does not imply any popular tribal support for the militants. The brutal massacre of the anti-Taliban people in South Waziristan was being closely watched in the neighbouring North Waziristan. By the time the militants reached North Waziristan, people there had clear idea that resistance to Taliban/Al Qaeda was pointless since the state is behind them. That was further confirmed when they saw that Jalaludin Haqqani hosted all the militants. Thus the militants landed and continue to live there in peace amid the terrified local tribals whose free will is under siege.

A Pashtun from Afghanistan, Jalaludin Haqqani, leader of the Haqqani Network, is one of the veterans of ISI's proxies, who were recruited in 1974 and later trained by colonel Imam in Peshawar for Afghan 'jihad'. He was settled in Danday Darpa Khel, a village in the suburbs of Mir Ali, the second important town of North Waziristan. His extended family owns almost half of the real estate in Mir Ali. A signal phone call from his house or madrassa is enough to ensure postings and transfers in all government offices in North Waziristan. Also, the Haqqani family has houses in Rawalpindi and Peshawar.

The Haqqani network based in North Waziristan, a frequent target of the US drone strikes, is the most formidable Taliban group attacking the US and Afghan forces in Afghanistan. It is the Haqqani Taliban leaders that the military establishment of Pakistan wants to accommodate in the future government of Afghanistan as has been suggested by the establishment linked think tank, Jinnah Institute, in its report 'Pakistan, US and the Endgame in Afghanistan' (page 13). The same report warns of Pashtun backlash in FATA if the Taliban are not accommodated in power in Afghanistan. But there is no public support for Afghan Taliban in FATA that could translate in such a backlash. Although the ISI did try to create that support, it failed.

For example, the ISI tried to create a stature for the Haqqanis as respected tribal leaders in FATA. They were directed to make peace among the Shia and Sunni tribes in Kurram. The objective was to argue to the world that Haqqanis are respected tribal leaders who have managed to make peace among the Shia and Sunni tribals, something that even the government of Pakistan had not been able to achieve. Thus any action against the Haqqani Network, that the US is asking for, would enrage the 'fiercely autonomous' people of FATA.

The Shia and Sunni tribal leaders questioned the wak (authority) of the Haqqanis to negotiate Kurram disputes. The Haqqanis responded that they were directed by the ISI. They demanded full authority from the tribal leaders for a peace deal. The Shias flatly refused. The Sunnis gave them the authority that practically means no authority: they asked the Haqqanis to use their influence with the ISI to implement the Murree agreement negotiated between the Kurram Shias and Sunnis by the government of Pakistan in 2008 but never enforced.

In the past, Kurram has been accepting mediation from Waziristan. Khandan Mehsud, a respectable tribal elder from Waziristan target killed in the post 9/11 Waziristan due to his opposition to the Taliban, has been leading the negotiations. Why did tribes of Kurram welcome Khandan Mehsud but not the Haqqanis? This is because the Mehsud had the stature of a popular tribal leader in FATA that the Haqqanis simply do not have. The fact that Mehsud belonged to the Sunni sect never damaged the Shias' trust in him. In this context he was a Pashtun nationalist who sincerely worked for well being of the Pashtun regardless their religious affiliations. Contrary to this, the Shias see the Haqanis as their murderers and the Sunnis fear, not respect, them. This is not how popular nationalist leaders are looked upon by their people.

    Another article by...

Farhat Taj ANDERSEN.... who, remind me again, somehow understands Pashtuns better than Pashtuns do because so many Pashtuns in the FATA areas give their daughters hand in marriage to Mr. Andersen????

Can we then write an article: Farhat Taj is not a Taliban but is Certainly a proxy of the Andersens?

I see that she once again decided to leave her surname off the articles in the all respective journals that the piece was published in.

She also veers off course and looks foolish when she attempts to ascribe the same ideologies of ANP to Millet... the latter which the Pir Gilani family is and Ahadi is heavily behind and has no general commentary on militant secularism. Their primary written objective is Pashtun ascendency. Pir Gilani was at odds with Khalq/parcham which she heaps together with Millet.

The only thing we can deduce from her series of articles is that the term Nationalism is an improper moniker for the Taliban or the ANP Party or PMAP. The former are proud to be called militant Islamists and the latter appear to be militant secularists.
The notion is to somehow hijack the term nationalist and replace it in the minds of readers with the word: patriot. That term is then left in the eye of many beholders.

Somewhere in her lair... or her retard bunker Miss Andersen must be seething with rage... rage that white people like Medea Benjamin, Clive Stafford Smith of Reprieve, and Shahzad Akbar (previously took on secular causes but now will undoubtedly be called an ISI agent since you cannot in the argument in any other meaningful way) are going to debunk her.

    http://dissenter.firedoglake.com/2012/04/26/8553/

    http://droneswatch.org/2012/04/29/dr...mit-statement/

Even this single instance of the Karim Khan case shows that Miss Andersen's idiotic meanderings that seek to gaurantee that every single drone hit has not produce a single civilian death are seen as suspect by the Obama Administeration itself... yet she forcefully clings to the idea. This alone shows she has a deep inability to be objective, is agenda laced, and pretty much has a poor grasp on the comings and goings of the region.

    http://original.antiwar.com/mbenjami...strike-lawyer/

Oh and in case you start to go crazy and turn into the Exorcist Girl again and have to resort to ISI claims... here you go:

"But his relationship with the U.S. government changed in 2010 when he took on the case of Karim Khan, a resident of a small town in North Waziristan who claimed that his 18-year-old son and 35-year-old brother were killed when a CIA-operated drone struck his family home.
“Khan could have responded by taking up arms and joining the Taliban. Instead, he put his trust in the legal system,” Akbar told me in an interview from Islamabad. Akbar helped Khan sue the CIA and the U.S. secretary of defense for the wrongful deaths of his relatives. Since then, dozens of families have come forward and joined the legal proceedings."

Is Miss Taj Andersen now going to produce some "evidence" that somehow proves Karim Khan is Mullah Omar's nephew???

This has no bearing on the US's national security interests whatsoever. What the US does is its own perogative. But what it does show is that the US Analysts are far more honest than this sham of a writer. Even John Brennan is more trust worthy despite being a spokesman for the policy.

So yes Miss Andersen, you have no need to write a 20 part expose to prove to us that militant secularists and militant Islamists are not alike. Everyone who knows aleph be thaay and A,B,C can tell you that. Thanks for wasting our time yet again.

BZA: How strange it is that Farhat is a female and whatever her color, creed or ethnicity is, atleast she is raising a voice for the oppressed Pakhtuns instead of cheerleading for Pakistan army and her agencies.Your long and well documented posts are of no use to your proclaimed nation [Afghans/Pashtuns] as it brings nothing except death, despair and disappointment to Pakhtuns and reinforcement, encouragement and support to our enemies , oppressors and usurpers. What good is that knowledge which is used in the support of oppression.

          Really Pir?

Is it simply that your narrative is threatened? You know the one that goes something like this:

Soviets were friendly and Americans were evil ---> Proof of this is that a modern day Saint named Najib Ahmadzai paired with a modern day John the Baptist named Achakzai and took in his equivalent of the 12 disciples (all marxists) ---> These people were all out giving hard candies and swiss chocolates to the Pashtuns and offering them civility ----> Along comes the big bad CIA which finds a group of anti Christs named Hekmetyaar and Mossoud and Sayyaf they embolden impassioned people to undo the gains of Najib (conveniently ignoring the testimony of thousands including Karzai about the torture sustained at his own two bare hands)---> The CIA + the Saudis + a group of vegabonds take this latter day saint and zwaraand him setting back Pashtun gains 1000 years.

Its the most absurd assinine unsubstantiated drivel I have heard in my whole life. Its basis finds itself not in reality... but in wishful thinking and psychiatric magical thinking. Yet you do the Afghans and their sacrifices a huge injustice when you push this garbage somehow insinuating that either the whole rural mass of Afghanistan is stupid enough to run into helicopter fire for Hekmetyaar or that 3 CIA agents named Bob, Steve, and Tim are the true Mullacracy.

Simply looking next door at the istan disaster in the caucases shows us exactly what your outcomes would have produced. Islam Karimov equivalents are good enough for you, but not for the Afghan people my friend.

With respect to Farhat Taj Andersen, how in the name of all supposed intellectual deities and the real one does she "help" her creed?

Is it by ensuring that you, Toramana, and Soldat wont have to do what you should be doing? Is it by ensuring that the Americans are to be used for cannon fodder across the border and as mercenaries on your side of it to achieve the goals that you refuse to put hands to? If she is so in tune with the area and can somehow produce these "unnamed sources" she can be your intelligence wing and personally guide you through FATA in your efforts to cleanse it of the Taliban. As I noted a thousand times before, there is a festing Baloch insurgency.... if there are all these communist warriors as you insinuate waiting to simply unite Kabul to Peshawar and kill off Talibs, then by all means please go find Hakimullah Mehsud and Mullah Omar and hang them. Thats YOUR job, not America's.

And for that matter how do you even reconcile your erroneous series of narratives with the sudden embrace of the same power utilizing night raids and drone strikes? On the one hand you build this nearly Miraaj style religious belief motif that requires us to belief in CIA superman somehow crafting a plan with so much mental control power that millions of people fought the Red Juggernaut War Machine... and yet now you advocate somehow that the same power is not nefarious??? What changed?

Whether you look it or not the issue of the drones strikes have nothing at all to do with morality. The drones are an artifact of war. Super powers will do what they do to protect their national security interests. The Americans have and will continue to do what they believe is best to protect those national security interests. In the mean time, real patriots like Ron Paul and Michael Scheuer and Justin Raimondo will be doing their best to convince the American people that their national security goals do not align with them doing your dirty work for you or for propping up lazy failed Afghan emigres who now believe they can milk the American treasury and impose their views on the Afghan masses by fiat.

As noted, if you have problems please deal with the evidence at hand. The evidence, once again is as follows:
          1) Miss Taj Andersen repeatedly removes her surname and then goes on to claim that she can identify the true aspirations and cultural motifs of the Pashtuns. If Max Boot and other necon writers can claim to do so and need not change their name to Maksad Bootzai why ought she to fear the intellectual exchange regarding her duplicity? Because she claims her message will get confused with defending her lifestyle choices??? Well, if one claims to speak for the rural Pashtun masses and that they understand them better than everyone else who is an "outsider" as when she castigated Peter Bergen, then her own "western" choices become fair game.

          2) Miss Taj Andersen has claimed earlier on, though in recent years she quieted down, that the drones killed ZERO, and I repeat that ZERO civilians. Why are you so upset that Clive Stafford Smith and Code Pink have CONFIRMED with an evidence basis otherwise? If you are so pro Pashtun interests why are you so game to sacrifice innocent Pashtun life? Who are you so game to ignore Wazir and FATA requests to stop the drones above them (oh I forgot, somehow somewhere you constructed the alternate but false reality that they love the drones above their heads). Is it that you believe the rural Waziri ought to be ready to sacrifice his life for your outlandish goals? Is your view that its better for that young 16 year old Wazir WHO CLIVE STAFFORD SMITH PERSONALLY MET to be sacrificed in a drone operation for your belief in some greater good being accomplished? Perhaps then you need to quit your criticisms of the West and the CIA since your own criticisms of Brzenzski are that he dismissed the worth of Pashtun lives for his own end. Basically you are the same people that you criticized for their maneuverings in the 80s.

          3) With respect to Pakistan and Pakistani interests: As noted, if Pakistan dared to send her army into southern Afghanistan she would be devastated.

Why is it that you and Miss Taj Andersen who are so quick to label any dissenters as in line with pakistani interests sitting there and simply writing words on behalf of your people? You want an istan state constructed go and do what Bugti did and fight your own war.

You are basically a harbinger of Hunginton's clash of civilizations, attempting to draw in young American boys in the Army/Navy/marines who would be doing just fine living their lives here to do your bidding there because you are unwilling to follow though and militarily take out Mullah Omar and Hakimullah Mehsud on your own. Rather than expose yourself to danger your goal is to ensure that as many Americans as possible are pulled into a war of attrition to accomplish your goals which are out of touch and out of line with the aspirations, wishes, and ideologies of the Afghan people.

Bottom line: Not only are your fantasy laced narratives noted above not grounded in reality and lethal to the Pashtun population; but they are also murderous and lethal to the American population that need not fight your war for you.

I just read this last part again, reinforcement encouragement and support.... hmmm Pir... I think once again what irks you is that an evidence basis simply undoes your argument. Your basic qualm is that I wont sustain your sets of false narratives and lies to ensure your goals are accomplished; You know the ones that got millions of Pashtuns killed by KHAD and Najib?

If the "enemy" is history and fact based then thats a problem you need to deal with my friend as history general shows that reality based enemies tend to do better on 1 to 1 ratio than those that have approaches based in fantasy.

No rather, my meanderings are there to preserve the lives and ways of Pashtuns and Americans alike instead of involving them in your egocentric war to reanimate Najib.
