PESHAWAR: Tension continued to grip the Taliban-controlled North Waziristan tribal region after the militants on Saturday killed the two tribesmen they had kidnapped two days ago.
Also, the local Taliban loyal to Commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur asked the family of the tribal chieftain Haji Shah Mahmood to leave North Waziristan within 20 days, otherwise they would eliminate all his family members.
The two slain tribesmen were grandsons of Haji Shah Mahmood, an influential tribal elder belonging to Shawa tehsil of Mir Ali subdivision. They were identified as Malik Jehandad, son of Karim Khan, and Bashir Khan, son of Rasheed Khan.
The Taliban threw their bodies on a roadside in Mir Ali after killing them last night, locals said.
Their funeral prayer was held at 4 p.m. at Shawa on Saturday. A large number of people attended the funeral.
Meanwhile, the Taliban asked the family of Haji Shah Mahmood to leave Waziristan or face the consequences. They threatened to eliminate his entire family if it didn’t leave North Waziristan within 20 days.
After the funeral, elders of the Kabulkhel tribe informed Haji Shah Mahmood and his family members about the repercussions of Taliban’ threat and tried to convince them to say goodbye to their native region for avoiding further losses.
Haji Shah Mahmood and his family refused to abandon North Waziristan and vowed to defend their people at all costs.
Tribal sources said the situation was tense as around 1,200 armed militants were planning to attack the family of the elder and their supporters in Shawa.
