Western culture is like a religion (Simile). Where an individual devours some special time of the week to watch their favorite shows on tv. Pray (surf) on social media several times a day. Have similar viewpoints as their favorite news outlet: who the individual trust as much as a priest, imam, or rabbi. Adultery, fornication, and gambling are big "fardz" in western culture: receiving it's promotion from the ballyhoo of Hollywood and music industries.

I'm not attacking western culture. I live in the west and I'm just calling it as I see it.

the major religions are still with us, so what do you mean by extinguish?
it appears that some people are losing faith in their religion and some are gaining faith in the same. many chinese are said to be turning to christianity. some muslims are turning away, new ones joining.
many westerners have become buddhists. hindus, christians and buddhist converts.

That's a famous quote which explains that people need religion to cope with life's challenges and overcome them. People often don't like to hear the harsh truths and cling on to any sign of hope which religion provides with God being merciful and just. People can't cope with the fact that Hitler will go unpunished for killing 6 million jews or that many murderers who killed their lived ones can juat go unpunished so they need the assurance of justice in the afterlife and happy ending. People need the social capital that religion provides, Thats why even Richard Dawkins admits that religious cermonies and rituals need to be replaced with atheist ones to fill the void. Worshipping a higher being is in human nature wether its out of fear like volcanic mountains or admiration such as the Sun. Everyone worships something or the other, some replace God with money, some with a lover and some with their own desires. so in short no religion won't die, it will keep changing form.
Yes you are kind of right, you see often in the Western socity that they replaced God by somthing difrent like some belive now that aleins geneticaly manipulated apes and created humans :S.

              Observing is different from judging.
You're judging everyone in the west by what you have experienced in your own town.

Horse manure. Use your brain. The last 2000 years is a microcosm of religious history. Pagan religions dominated the earth once. Thor, Odin, Olympus, Shamanism, witchcraft have a much longer history than any Abrahamic religion.

Christianity has eroded significantly in the west. People pay lip service only. Some new adherents arrive and try and follow fundamental interpretation but they don't last. The Chinese are only transiently converting to Christianity in order to get a ticket to the west, that won't last. Islam will become a nominal religion in the west eventually (though Bradford and Yorkshire will probably become the Texas of the us).

dear, the question is horse sh*t itself, then.
those beliefs/religions you mention, have OBVIOUSLY disappeared or diminished but there is no proof either way about the main religions of today. we just have to wait and see.
