  • US Soldier Kills Dozen Civilians Near Kandahar

A US soldier has killed more than a dozen civilians in a shooting spree in southern Afghanistan before being detained, officials say.

A member of the Kandahar provincial council who visited the site of the shooting in Panjwai district told Al Jazeera that at least 17 civilians were killed when the soldier left his base early on Sunday morning and opened fire.

The Kandahar governor's office put the number of killed civilians at 15.

"Eleven members of my family are dead. They are all dead," Haji Samad, an elder from Panjwai district, told the AFP news agency.

Captain Justin Brockhoff, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), could not confirm any fatalities in the incident.

“This is a horrific incident, and our thoughts are with the families of the affected. Our initial reports indicate multiple civilians - between four and six- are wounded. Those civilians are receiving care at coalition medical facilities," he told Al Jazeera.

"At this point we do not have an indication - we can not speculate about the individual's motives."

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith, reporting from Herat, said the soldier entered three houses near the base and opened fire on civilians.

"We are now being told by the police sources that the US soldier left his base at three o clock this morning. It would have been pitch-black wherever he walked," he said.

From the perspective of one neighbourhood in Herat
"The soldier went through three separate houses, shooting at people as they slept in their beds. After the soldier shot these people, he turned himself in."

Civilian casualties have been a major source of friction between President Hamid Karzai's government and the NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Anti-American sentiment had already been running high before news of the latest civilian casualties.

"It is frankly disastrous. It is not just a disaster for the people who were murdered and killed in their houses, it is disaster for the country I suspect," our correspondent said.

Anger gripped the nation after US soldiers burned a large number of copies of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, at a NATO base last month, which the alliance said was "inadvertent”.

At least 41 people were killed in protests that followed the burning.

Najeeb Azizi, a Kabul-based Afghan analyst, said the shooting will have deep repercussions on the already tenuous relations with the US.

“It is a very tragic incident in particular because the Afghan and US governments are trying to sign a strategic agreement for a long term," he said.

"A very bad message the Afghan people are getting - that if US military remains in Afghanistan beyond 2014 and their attitude and behaviour remains the same - of killing innocent civilians- what will be the consequences, and how will the Afghan people respond to it."

President Karzai demands an explanation from US as civilians including women and children are shot dead in their homes.

    Afghan Genocide continues

According to recent reports arriving from the area, the American invaders backed by their puppets (ANA) left their base last night (11/03/2012) and raided several homes of locals, located near their base in Balambi village of Panjwaee district.

Witnesses from the scene say that during the raids, the American terrorists and their puppets shot the household members at point blank range and so far 50 bodies have been found and recovered by the villagers among which, 11 are from the home of Muhammad Wazir including himself. The unsuspecting innocent victims have been sprayed with hundreds of bullets and have been cold-bloodedly martyred.

The villagers say that this genocidal act, carried out by Americans and their hireling ANA took place last night at around midnight, adding that due to tens of civilians taking shelter in safe houses to protect themselves from this horror, many bodies have not yet been found which could potentially increase the number of casualties.

In this night time operation, the barbaric American terrorists have also burnt down a number of homes of the ordinary people. Some news outlets have cited the Americans as saying that the casualties have been caused by airstrikes however the villagers categorically reject this claim and invite all to examine the victims who have either been shot or have been martyred by hand grenades hurled inside their rooms. Most of the victims are local villagers, women and children.

Imagine if an Afghan soldier killed 17 US citizens on their homeland, people would be outrages and it would lower the flags, a 1 minutes silence, and many people in would pray in church for it. Now it happening in Afghanistan, it may or may not be a news in Western countries. Even if it does, it's not the soldier's fault as he was sick.

What a sad day. If an Afghan kills a dozen Americans, he instantly labeled an Islamic terrorist.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

This is not news. According to Dr. Miraki, this has happened a lot

Anyone who supports NATO war also supports and condones this ( Toramana, Soldat, Mostafa, etc)

Al-Jazeera has decided to start reporting on this against the censorship

The illegal occupation and murder of Afghans continues. For one 9/11 this is how they are punishing the entire country. I have constantly written about the tyranny of the US. Please check my articles on my website... I wonder why everyone says I am pro american. Just because of my article on secularism.

I condemn this act. Innocent civilians are dying daily in this war.
It also proves US has no concern for civilian lives in Afghanistan. All it is there for is to ensure that another attack does not occur in US ever again. The Afghan people do not matter. If they mattered they wouldn't have left Afghans to the oppression of the Taliban since 92. US didn't care where Afghanistan was going all these years. They only woke up when their civilians died in the 9/11 attacks.

No wonder US is known as a tyrannical force.
