Cousin marriage in pakistan is ridiculously widescale. There are quite a few reasons why pakistanis do this. First of all, some of the pakistanis are seriously stuck up, those who consider themselves as "higher class" people and they keep away from those that are from "lower class", due to this they would like to "keep it in the family" hence the cousin marriages occur. Secondly, a lot of pakistanis came to the UK in 1965 due to being poor and looking for work, as a result those that came here and settled did favours for their brothers and sisters and gave their childrens hand in marriage to get family from backhome here. The rest of it is down to "tradition" which is purely ignorance, just because its "allowed" in islam people think they are given the green light to go ahead and do so. When actually it is makrooh in islam. I have my own opinions on this though, I'm completely against 1st cousin marriages as its almost like marrying your own brother or sister, but from 2nd cousin onwards I would still contest but if it occurs every 2-3 generations I don't see why there should be a problem.

Not really. Cousin marriages in some areas of Pakistan are high, in others are low (the Baloch being one example).
no they don't. it is fairly common in some areas of the punjab though particularly mirpur. The statistics show Rajputs do it the most, closely followed by Jatts.
b-thalassemia was prevalent in Punjabis (60.7%) followed by Saraikees (25.5%). Castewise it was most frequent in Rajputs followed by Jatts, Arain, Sheikhs and Pathans. 56.7% of the couples were first cousins and 19.8% were relatives.
In this series, the highest frequency was found in Punjabi Rajputs. The commonest mutation was Fr 8-9. Most parents were first cousins. Premarital thalassemia carrier testing can effectively reduce the disease.
According to a study of Indian states by the Anthropological Survey of
India, at least 97 percent of the communities in Andhra Pradesh adhere
to community endogamy and marriages between close relations.
