Terry Jones threatens Koran burning if Iranian pastor is executed

    Posted: Monday, February 27, 2012, 10:05 (GMT)

The organisation of firebrand pastor Dr Terry Jones has said it will burn Korans and images of the Prophet Muhammad if an Iranian pastor is executed for his faith.

Stand Up America Now made the threat after it emerged last week that the Iranian courts may have upheld the execution order for Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani.

The pastor has been in prison since October 2009. He was originally detained for protesting but the charge was later changed to apostasy.

Dr Jones sparked an international panic in 2010 when he threatened to burn Korans on the anniversary of 9/11.

After sparking riots in parts of the Middle East and Asia, the pastor came under intense pressure from political and religious leaders, and agreed not to go ahead with the stunt.

No sooner was he out of the headlines when his small Florida church burned a Koran in March last year after putting the holy book on trial and finding it guilty of crimes against humanity.

That stunt triggered massive riots in the northern Afghanistan city of Mazar-i-Sharif, where 10 UN officials were killed in an attack on the organisation's city base.

Dr Jones defended his organisation's latest plans to The Christian Post, saying that Christians "cannot just stand by and do nothing" in the face of militant Islam.

"We have very little that we can do as a Christian community to protest the inhumane activities of Islam," Jones told the website.

"It's a type of protest to let the government know we are totally disgusted with their type of Shariah, with their activities. In fact, with the activities of Islam over the past 1,400 years."

Dr Jones has voiced approval for the burning of Korans in Afghanistan by members of the US military, which prompted riots that killed two Americans and several Afghans.

Jordan Sekulow, executive director of the American Center for Law and Justice, criticised Dr Jones' plans.

"It's an abuse of freedom," he told The Christian Post.

"We have those kinds of freedoms here, but if you're going to do it for publicity's sake, it still doesn't make it right just because it's legal."

there are no images of the Prophet (pbuh). Muslims aren't idol worshipers like Christians, Jews, and Hindus.

      This pastor is a retard

Someone tells him "Qur'an" means "Recitation" so you can't "burn" the Qur'an.

So why do muslims go up in arms everytime someone burns the Quran?

I agree that all religious texts should be respected but if some idiot somewhere mistreats religious text, it doesn't give people the right to burn shops, other people's property and a ticket to mindless violance. You can proteset peacefully and get your point across like civilized human beings. I doubt Muhmmad (saw) would go on a rampage throwing stones and stuff because somebody somewhere burned the Quran. Why don't muslims follow the prophet (saw)'s sunnah rather than take matters into their own hands and over react trying to show their love for Islam?

its pretty sad for this man that his only claim to fame is threatening to burn the quran. what else has this idiot done in his 60 years (guess) on earth that is worth mentioning?

christians, instead of looking at america and seeing that its a secular godless moral piss bucket of culture, instead, focus on islam lol its like someone who's home is on fire, talking **** to the people who live a mile down the street because they don't like the color that the house is painted in.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

How pastor Terry Jones was expelled from a church in Germany for creating 'a climate of control and fear'

Stephen Baar, one of the current pastors of the Christian Community of Cologne church in west Germany, told news agency DPA Jones expected 'blind obedience' from those who came to worship.

In addition to forbidding free expression, there were a number of 'financial irregularities' when Jones and his wife Sylvia were in charge.

Andrew Schafer, an official responsible for monitoring churches in the region of Cologne said people who were ministered by Jones are still in therapy for 'spiritual abuse'.

Speaking to news website Spiegel Online, he also claimed the pastor taught a 'distinct demonology', telling congregation members to beat their children with a rod

'Terry Jones appears to have a delusional personality,' he added.

Terry Jones was born in October 1951 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.[9] He attended college for two years, worked at a hotel, and joined the now defunct Maranatha Campus Ministries.[9] He moved to Cologne, Germany, where in 1981 he founded a charismatic church, the Christian Community of Cologne (CGK).[9][10]
Jones received an honorary degree from an unaccredited theology school in 1983, and began using the title "Doctor." He was fined for this misuse of a credential title by a German administrative court.[9][11] By the late 2000s (decade), the CGK grew to have a membership of approximately 800–1000.[10] According to the German magazine, Der Spiegel, the congregation kicked Jones out in 2008 due to the "climate of fear and control" that he employed, which included elements of "brainwashing" and telling congregants to beat their children with rods.[10] He was accused of improper use of church funds, and forcing congregants to labor for free.[10] A leader of the Cologne church said Jones did not "project the biblical values and Christianity, but always made himself the center of everything." Others accused him of being violent and fanatical.[12] Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported that church members said Jones ran the Cologne church like a cult, using psychological pressure.[13]
Between 2001 and 2008, Jones served as the part-time pastor of the Gainesville, Florida church Dove World Outreach, frequently traveling back and forth between Germany and the United States.[9][14] Jones assumed full-time duties at Dove World Outreach in 2008 after leaving the German church.[9] By September 2010, Dove World was said to have 50 members,[15] with about 30 members reportedly attending services.[9]
In 2010 Jones published Islam Is of the Devil, a polemic that claims Islam promotes violence, and that Muslims want to impose sharia law in the United States.[16][17] After Jones announced the Quran burning, the German Evangelical Alliance denounced his theological statements and his craving for attention.[18]
Following an invitation from the English Defence League, Jones considered attending a rally in Luton in the U.K. in February 2011 to share his views. The anti-fascist group Hope not Hate petitioned the Home Secretary to ban Jones from entering the country.[19] In January 2011 the Home Secretary announced that Jones would be refused entry to the UK 'for the public good'.[20]
Jones' actions have prompted a Pakistan terrorist group to place a $1.2 million bounty on his head; Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group, has announced a $2 million bounty.[21][22]
Jones planned to visit the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan to protest what he claims is "creeping sharia", but was arrested and jailed for a few hours.[23][24] Soon after he was interviewed at WJBK-TV, Jones' gun fired accidentally as he got into his car.[25]
The city allowed him to protest a week later in a designated "free speech zone" outside Dearborn City Hall.[26] Muslim protesters also appeared in opposition to his statements and actions.
[edit] 2010 threat to burn a Quran

In 2010 Jones announced plans to burn the Quran on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which he dubbed "International Burn a Quran Day". A wide range of politicians and religious groups strongly condemned the planned Quran desecration event. Jones said he canceled the event and intended to go to New York to meet with the imam of Park51, Feisal Abdul Rauf.[27] After saying he would never burn the scriptures,[28] on March 20, 2011, Jones oversaw the burning of a Quran.
This prompted protests, including an attack in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people.[29] In April 2011, Jones claimed he is considering a trial of the Prophet Muhammad for "crimes against humanity."[30]
