Imran wants open border with Afghanistan

Islamabad - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that it was his dream to see an open border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He was talking to Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Umer Daudzai, who called on him at his residence. Imran said that in the past Pakistani regimes backed different Afghan groups instead of simply supporting what was good for the Afghans. The PTI chairman hoped that the future would tie up both countries in exemplary ties. Daudzai told Imran that how different agreements were imposed on the Afghans throughout history since the Soviet invasion, including the arrival of US and NATO forces. He said that Afghanistan was not even represented in the resolutions presented in the UNSC about the country.

Successive Pak regimes backed Afghan groups: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan conceded in a meeting with Afghan Ambassador Muhammad Umar Daudzai that successive governments in Pakistan had backed different Afghan groups instead of supporting what was good for the people of Afghanistan.

The Afghan ambassador called on Imran Khan here at his residence on Tuesday. The PTI chairman hoped that the two countries would now move forward and achieve good results through dialogue and consultation.

Imran said he had a dream to see an open border between a friendly and peaceful Pakistan and Afghanistan. Daudzai described how different agreements were imposed on the Afghans since the Soviet invasion and the arrival of US and Nato forces afterwards. Afghanistan, he said, was not even represented in UNSC resolutions on Isaf. He felt that this situation would continue for at least four more years.

However, the Afghan ambassador said, his country had been investing very heavily in human development including higher education. He said Afghanistan today was a different Afghanistan from 2001 but there was no awareness of the changed Afghanistan in Pakistan.

Imran Khan expressed hope that the US withdrawal from Afghanistan would not see a repeat of the agony of 1989 and civil war. The ambassador explained why this would not happen. But he conceded that Imran’s concerns were genuine.

Both also discussed the new thinking within the Taliban, who were more accommodating. The different types of Taliban were also discussed.

Imran Khan emphasised that Pakistan and Afghanistan should have a relationship free of the excess baggage of the past and of India, although the latter factor, he noted, could not be ignored.

The ambassador explained that the forthcoming visit of President Karzai to Pakistan would be different from his past visits. “Afghanistan wants to establish a relationship with Pakistan that is free from any other power, as they have done with Iran. But this has to be done by taking the whole country in confidence, not just the government,” he said.

          Read and preserve.

Pakistan's foreign policies towards Afghanistan will never change until it sorts out its relationship with India. The relationship with India is the elephant in the room.

Imran Khan is born, raised and from Punjab. He has never lived in Pakhtun hewad. He just speaks what his general buddies and uncles tell him to say.

His own children are being raised in Jewish schools in the West while he wants Pashtun kids to be raised in Saudi funded Taliban madrassahs.

                He is a walking hypocrite!

^ so are you by that very same definition buddy...a hypocrite.

Where are you? England? Where you will spend the rest of your life..and where your children will be born? Are you telling me...your going to take your wife to Waziristan and have her give birth to your child there? And what school will you send your child to?

What's your alternative plateform to what Imran Khan is proposing? Mass immigration to England?

You should say something about someone else, what you would about your self as well. That is how you don't become a hypocrite.

You seem totally confused to me Mehsud...Soldat.

This guys is basically saying that the boarder between Afghanistan and Pakistan should be wiped out. And you are opposing that?
                  You are against that?

                  Are you stupid?

Terrorists can move better? Or Pashtuns could move better?

Our whole qualm with the ISI is over the boarder. They want the boarder. They patrol the boarder. They make their profits from the boarder. And you are actually pro-boarder?
You are actually in favour of the recognition of the Durrand Line?

Your hate for Mujahideen, Taliban, Islam, etc has turned into an obsession my friend.

                  It clouds your judgement.

You don't think of the welfare of your people. And now your own agenda is no different than that of the British Raj.

If imran khan is listening to his friends and uncles, then so what? At least they are his kin and his own people!

You are listening to the Queen of England. What does that make you?

                    Alchemist,

there is a difference between ideologically driven, emotion laden and/or strategic claims towards Pashtunistan on the one side AND realpolitik on the other side.

Opening the border NOW would mean that the influx of what is causing the civil war will increase.

The problem is the border, exactly!

Imran Khan said, he wants OPEN BORDERS.
Any agreement to open a border directly implies that you RECOGNIZE that border as an internationally recognized border.

This is not rocket science that Soldat Amir is talking about, seriously.

Explain the difference to me please.

I thought the main reason we want an open boarder is so that Afghan traders don't get taxed at ridiculous rates - custom tax, regulation tax, reshwat taxes, and so much red tapes. Right now Afghan traders are forced to go through different routes because they don't profit by going through Pakistani thieves.

                      Did you hear about this:

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan has expressed fears that stoppage of hundreds of food containers by the Pakistan Customs could cause temporary food shortage in the country. The visiting Afghan Finance Minister, Dr Hazrat Omar Zakhiwal, said the 700 containers were carrying commercial cargo under the Transit Trade Agreement and had nothing to do with the Nato forces. “Pakistan has no right to stop these containers carrying mainly food items and other domestic/commercial goods,” Dr Zakhiwal said at a meeting of the Pakistan-Afghan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) here on Tuesday. The Afghan finance minister said the transit trade cargo containers were being held up at ports in Pakistan by the Customs department on suspicion that they were laden with illegal cargo.
An open boarder means economic prosperity for Afghans. A closed boarder benefits only Pakistan.

So we should starve the people because "terrorists" kills more people? Nonsense.

What is causing the Civil War anyway? Poverty? or Ideology?
If you want to build a just society you must raise the people above want. This is common sense.

Rocket science what you are proposing my friend..."realpolitik".

Who cares if the whole world acknowledges the boarder or not? If we have access to the sea ports without pakistani hands in our trader's pockets, if Afghans can freely make trips to peshawar or karachi to visit their relatives ...what difference does it make what you call it? Boarders are imaginary lines.

Pakistanis have something they can use against Afghanistan. So Afghans are forced to accept that and let Pakistan do whatever she wants

Karachi belongs to Sindh and thus is Pakistani and Gwadar belongs to Balochistan and thus is also Pakistani. What to do? How we survived the last 3000years?
