    SC Takes On the ISI

Pakistan’s top court has demanded a summary of the law under which the seven men have been detained for over a year.

Seven men allegedly held by Pakistan’s feared intelligence services on Monday appeared in court, an unprecedented development following orders from the country’s highest court.

The case challenges perceptions that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence operates above the law. The ISI is accused in the West of still maintaining links to the Taliban and Islamist militants, whom it historically sponsored.

The seven men appeared frail, weak, unable to talk and unable to walk properly when they appeared before Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, more than a year and a half after being allegedly arrested. Seeing their condition, Chaudhry ordered a full medical examination.

Intelligence agencies last month handed over the men to the custody of the provincial government in the northwest, after the Supreme Court took up the case.

Four of the men were reportedly held in the northwestern city of Peshawar and three in the tribal region of Parachinar near the Afghan border. “There should be proper medical treatment and they shall not be shifted to internment centre in Parachinar, so long as the matter is pending before the court,” Chaudhry said. “A medical board shall be constituted to examine their health.”

Lawyer Tariq Asad, who represented the detainees, said the court ordered the ISI and military intelligence to submit details on their detention, including what law they were being held by at the next hearing on Mar. 1. “The report will contain details about what happened to them during their detention over one year and a half and whether any trial took place,” he said.

The SC is finally becoming the most powerful institution in Pakistan.

Lets hope they can clean up this mess - this country ruled by a bunch of Western slaves. The civilan government, army, ISI are all on the same page- looting the country, and supporting war in the region.

I dont know whether to doubt Imran Khan, but he said all along that he will empower the Supreme Court.

It would be good to see legal cases taken against slaves like Gilani and kayani together.

These shameless jerks are trying to fool people

Ghundal, it were only just seven people... There are hundreds of people missing, tortured brutally, killed and don't know what they do with them inside.
People talk of Guantanamobay lol. There are hundreds of guantanamobays inside Pakistan where the army's behaviour and torture is hundred times more than that of those Americans.
People talk of Taliban brutality but I say taliban only kill people and these beghairat army torture people brutally for months and for years...
may Allah send a big big azaab on this army men.
I hate them from the core of my heart qasam.

dozens of people go missing daily in pakistan, there is no SC.

the chain of government in pakistan has been broken numerous times but the isi and army command has not.

this is politics. the isi and army is above the government in every way, shape, and form. these institutions are not held accountable to the SC or the elected government.

read what mullah zaeef has to say about the isi and the paki government. there was one part in his book where he said something about the governor of the nwfp grilling him about wanted men who were in afg but zaeef mentioned that these same men were touring pakistan with the unofficial approval of the isi and army.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

I dont know about that. First, I dont think the SC cares about the ISI and Pak Army at this stage. In a way, the SC judges are actually really smart. You see, on one hand they are taking legal action against the civilian government by indicting Gilani, and on another hand they are now taking action against the Pak Army/ISI (one and the same). They already have these missing people under protection, and are giving them medical treatment.

I think, this was their test run, and I expect many more cases to go forward.

No one is powerful when the whole country perceives this whole government and military as a bunch of slaves- that power then means nothing.

Remember, these Judges lost their jobs due to their opposition to Musharraf.

I really think the Army and ISI days are over.

              People see them as slaves
