Afghan 'killed troops over abuse video'

    From: AFP January 23, 2012 7:44AM

AN Afghan soldier who shot dead four French troops says he did it because of a recent video showing US Marines urinating on the dead bodies of Taliban insurgents, security sources say.

The attack on the soldiers, who were unarmed, came on Friday at a base in eastern Afghanistan and left 15 other French troops wounded, eight of them seriously.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy reacted angrily, threatening to pull his forces out of Afghanistan ahead of the 2014 deadline for all US-led coalition combat troops, and dispatched Defence Minister Gerard Longuet to Kabul.

That started a round of claim and counter claim over who was responsible for the attack, with Longuet saying he was told the killer was a Taliban infiltrator in the ranks of the Afghan army.

The Taliban, usually quick to claim coalition deaths, said they were still investigating and suggested some of the many attacks by Afghan soldiers on their foreign counterparts were prompted by anger towards the "invading enemy".

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, in a statement after a meeting with Longuet, failed to echo his accusation against the Taliban and also played down the idea of Afghan resentment of foreign troops.

"The attack against French forces by an Afghan army soldier does not represent the anger of Afghan people but it is just an isolated and individual action," he said.

The story emerging from the interrogation of the soldier arrested for the killings - named as 21-year-old Abdul Mansour - would support Karzai's interpretation.

"During the initial interrogations by French soldiers, he told them he did it because of the video in which American soldiers were urinating on bodies," an Afghan army officer told AFP.

That report was backed by an intelligence source and another with access to information from the Afghan ministry of defence, both of whom requested anonymity.

The intelligence source said the soldier told interrogators he had no direct contacts with the Taliban.

The Afghan soldier had also referred to a video showing British soldiers allegedly abusing Afghan children, the ministry of defence source said.

Less than a week after news of the US Marines video broke, British military police arrested two servicemen over allegations that they abused an Afghan boy and a girl, both aged about 10, and filmed the incidents.

The US video, posted online this month, showed four US soldiers urinating on three bloodied corpses, and one of the men, apparently aware he was being filmed, saying "have a great day, buddy," referring to one of the dead.

The images conjured up previous abuses committed by US troops during the decade-long war against Taliban insurgents and top US officials scrambled to condemn the soldiers.

Told that AFP was about to run reports of the Afghan soldier's alleged confession, a spokesman for the US embassy in Kabul, Gavin Sundwall, said: "Our deepest condolences go out to France and the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in this tragic incident."

The actions in the video "violate the core values of both our societies".

A spokesperson for the British embassy in Kabul said an investigation into the allegations against the British troops was under way and therefore the embassy could not comment on the Afghan soldier's claim.

The US, Britain and France are the main contributors to the coalition forces of some 130,000 troops who have been fighting a 10-year insurgency by hardline Islamist Taliban forces ousted from power after the 9/11 attacks in the US.

There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

This doesn't make any sense. What has american soldiers peeing on dead bodies got to do with killing french soldiers who had nothing to do with the incident? Is this kind of revenge even logical or islamically allowed?

do u realize the french are only there because of the americans? not to mention that the french military occupying the country along with the US and rest of NATO is already enough justification.

french are there for their own share of the pie and similar intrests to america.
what i am trying to ask here is the islamic point of view. is it allowed to kill soldiers even if they had nothingn to do with the incident. sure they are part of the same coalition but is that the same as saying they are guilty of the same crime.

no matter his personal justification, piss or no piss, the mere fact that the french have sent their military to occupy afghanistan is more than enough justification.

when the nazis occupied france, fighting them was seen as valiant, and is held in high esteem even today. the nazis are now the french and france is now afghanistan.

I just want to know the Islamic verdict on this issue.

I am not talking about his personal justification or if the presence of french troops is a justification for this act. I want to know if this guy's actions are islamically correct, not correct or no one really knows.

to ask here is the islamic point of view
what kind of stupid question is this

people invade your country , let alone that they want to impose a goverment of criminals on you , no they humiliate on every possible incident your religion and your culture , and provoke for no reason .

they treat you and your fellow people like subhumans , and probably beat you up from time to time , and then you hear such things of videos , abusing dead bodies abusing children , let alone the murder of civilians .

what kind of islam would prohibit the act of selfdefence ?

the french are under isaf and nato control on behalf of the americans there , and they are as cruel as the americans especially the foreign legionairs .so they are the enemy !!!!

he the shooter was one , they were many , so he had to take an advantage which he could .

in war everything is allowed , he killed 4 soldiers from behind , how many of their snipers murderd cold blooded , taliban from behind or civilians how many died at nights while sleeping , when they bomb whole villages ?

what kind of religion , will tell you to do this or that not ???

people use your brain , islam is a religion of life and for humans not for androids .

why is gambling forbidden , why is drinking alcohol forbidden , or taking personal interest rates and usery ???

not because its just written there, but because it has got a logical reason behind it !
