  • Pakistan, Afghanistan vow stronger trade ties

ISLAMABAD (PAN): Pakistan said on Monday stronger trade, economic and cultural ties with Afghanistan would boost regional economy and improve living standards of the two nations.
Pakistan Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafiz Shaikh told the inaugural session of the 8th Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Economic Commission in Islamabad that the panel provided a platform to explore avenues of greater economic cooperation.
Vast opportunities of economic integration existed between the two nations, he said, asserting Pakistan's commitment to exploiting the potential for the prosperity of the two countries.
They proposed a Pakistan-Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote the private sector and business-to-business links between the two countries, the federal minister said, adding his country would construct the Jalalabad-Peshawar rail link and Jalalabad-Torkham road.
For his part, Afghan Finance Minister Dr Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal said the neighbours shared deep-rooted historical, cultural and regional ties. He stressed the need for strengthening trade links between the brotherly countries.
He expressed gratitude to Pakistan for $300 million assistance, saying Islamabad, despite facing internal challenges, had always helped Kabul. He added the assistance had had a direct impact on the living standards of the Afghan people.
Participants of the two-day meeting reviewed the implementation status of the last session and agreed to evaluate bilateral trade, the transit trade agreement, Pakistani assistance, capacity-building programmes for Afghanistan and cooperation in education, engineering, culture, communication and tourism sectors.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Waste of 300 dollers money... I know about nature of afghans, they would never be thankful to this help neither they would recognize it...
Already trade (and smuggling) and cultural ties exist between afghanistan and pak. Pakistan need to focus more on india. We need to establish strong economic ties with our eastren neighbour.

Its about time pakistan returned the American, saudi and United Nations money which was given to Afghans through pakistan. Pakistan probably has stolen billions of dollars worth of Aid which was meant for Afghan refugees in pakistan. Afghanistan should ask for that money to be paid in fully by pakistani theif and thug government, ISI and army.

We are thankful Pakistan returned the $300 million dollars they stole, now they should return the rest of the money as soon as possible.

^ Dagha matlab may wu. Pakistan can not buy love of Afghans with 300 million dollers. Thats why i said it was quite a waste of money, it would have been better if it was spent on sri lanka or nepal.
India is already helping afghanistan, the help of which is greatly appreciated and loved by afghans . Pakistan should'nt copy india in rivalry, india can afford giving such aid, pakistan can not.

I thanked pakistan for returning our money. Afghans love pakistanis in real life. we have alot in common. Love can not be bought with money. Its how we treat each that matters. urdu ki wayi "thali aik hat se nahi bajti".

indians are loved by Afghans because of their non interference in Afghanistan and the history of Afghans in India's history. Indian society and philosophy teaches peace, harmony with nature and humanity. The Indian mindset is very humanistic, you can see this when you meet indians. very non agressive. just enjoying life, music and meditation. ofcourse India has extremists as well but majority are not like that. Pakistani people are lovely as well, its just their imposed imperialistic government and autocracy which is the problem for both Afghans and pakistanis.

By the way our governament has eaten those billion of dollers aid from international community that were given on occasions of earth quake and recent floods that were supposed to be spent on affected people...so plight of common pakistanis are same as those afghan refugees living in pakistan.

I appreciate your lovely views about Pakistanis. But most of your countrymen dont like dhaal chapati pakis. And they have very strong reasons for it, i) one would be durand issue ii) second would be interference of pakistan in afghanistan iii) third would be excessive intake of dhaal in pakistan

Durand line is an unfortunate incidence in pakhtun history. As long as pashtuns on both sides of the imaginary line keep helping each other and keep close ties, we can be sure that states like Afghanistan and Pakistan will come and go but the pukhtuns will stay. After all this is our homeland and no one can kick us out.

lol. Dhal joke is just for fun. Its because Dhal is not that famous amongst Afghan/pakhtuns who prefer and rice and meaty dishes so we just make fun of them for loving dhal so much. I have Dhal from time to time in pakistani resturants and it tastes nice. Maybe if Afghans eat more Dhal we wouldn't be so hot tempered.

Exactly. I agree with you that states like pakistan would come and go but pashtuns were/are/will be living their watan.
Members here have frequently ask me or shehbaz khan that why we consider ourselves pakistani (the exact term they use is often slaves of punjabi)...i always answer that i am a law abiding citizen of pakistan, along with pashtun pakistan is part of my identity now ..as i am pashtun so my love extends to people of afghanistan with whom i have more in common than indics....But if a RAMA agent offers me some dollers to place a bomb in pak army cantt, then even though i dislike pak army, i would still refuse to participate in treachery and if possible i would hand over that agent to pakistani authorities.
Members here are unable to distinguish between nature of pashtun and baloch. Once i asked a punjabi friend of mine that why they keep pashtuns as watchmen, to humiliate them? He said no the reason is that they trust imaandari of a pashtun, they know that pashtuns are loyal and dutiful people and when they are asleep at night, they are not worried that their pashtun watchmen would loot them or do worse...perhaps it explains why pashtuns in pakistan are still not anti-state while balochs are..
But blood is thicker than water, even in recent army operations in pashtun areas, many pashtun officers were very uneasy about it and rumours were circulating that many have refused to carry out their orders. May be from afghan point of view pashtuns in pak army are of worse kind but we should also remember that in mukti bhani of bengal separatist movement the most effective force were the rebel bengali soldiers from pak army. In 1857 war of hindostan against british the core of resistance comprised of rebel soldiers from east india company. So if ever east pakistan situation was created and i felt that majority of pashtuns of pakistan want freedom from pakistan, then luffy would be with his people...but that time has not come, those who says that majority of lar pashtuns are anti-pakistanis, are lying and are trying to score points...
