Biden: Taliban Is Not Enemy of US

    Monday, December 19, 2011 05:54 PM

    By: Paul Scicchitano
Vice President Joe Biden said today that the Taliban is not an enemy of the United States -- in what some have characterized as the latest in a long string of VP gaffes.

“The Taliban, per se, is not our enemy,” Biden told Newsweek, for an article published today. “There is not a single statement that the president has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy because it threatens U.S. interests.

“If, in fact, the Taliban is able to collapse the existing government, which is cooperating with us in keeping the bad guys from being able to do damage to us, then that becomes a problem for us.”

But President Barack Obama has said that the Taliban was complicit in protecting Osama bin Laden while the United States spent most of the past 10 years looking for him, according to his May 2 statement posted on the White House website.

“We’ve disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al-Qaida safe haven and support," the president said in his address to the nation following the killing of the al-Qaida leader.

“And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al-Qaida terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot,” the president added.

Biden went on to tell Newsweek that the United States should continue to put pressure on al-Qaida to diminish its presence, while helping Afghanistan’s government reach a position to negotiate with the Taliban — but not be overthrown by it.

“And at the same time, try to get the Taliban to move in the direction to see to it that they, through reconciliation, commit not to be engaged with al-Qaida or any other organization that they would harbor to do damage to us and our allies,” Biden said.

U.S. Embassy Backs Biden on Taliban

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul issued a statement Thursday clarifying Vice President Biden’s recent comments in Newsweek about the Taliban. “What the Vice President said was that the Taliban is not necessarily our enemy if they lay down arms and renounce violence, break ties with al Qaeda and accept Afghanistan’s constitution, especially concerning women and minorities,” said U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker in the statement. “The Taliban has a choice: Continue to fight or join Afghan society by accepting those conditions.” In the same statement, Department of Defense spokesman Capt. John Kirby said that while the Taliban continue to attack U.S. forces, “we consider that is a force we are going to deal with.” “That said, they have political ambitions, and that’s why there’s a reconciliation process being led by the Afghan government, with the support of the State Department,” Kirby said.

its meant for consumption by ignorant talibs, but biden probably doesn't figure that talibs aren't as ignorant as he thinks they are. but then again, i am not in the quetta shura, and those people have done some stupid **** so what do i know.

they aren't our enemy but we take over their country, bomb their soldiers, imprison their family, and put them in prison indefinately. wait..what?
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

His remarks were not meant for consumption by any Afghan as with his remarks always, he has a habit of giving too much info away.

These remarks coincide with the so called breaking news about talks.

By statements such as these, he already got Romney demanding he not be allowed to run in the election in 2012

agreed, it is a political manipulation strategy - let some one infamous for stupid remarks to utter some 'truths', feed the fodder to the public, its ridiculed initially, but then the truth dawns upon everyone, the fodder by now has becomes common currency and amreka is exiting with excuse that is positively a raison detre.

this is shirini, sweetening the public . . . how beguiling, how beguiled.

mass media is so mesmerisingly manipulative; it has the power to convert the masses.
