Azam Swati resigns from JUI-F, Senate

Azam Swati resigns from JUI-F, Senate | Pakistan | News | Newspaper | Daily | English | Online

ISLAMABAD - Former science and technology minister Azam Swati Wednesday resigned from the membership of Senate and JUI-F, saying that sitting in the Parliament was tantamount to wastage of time.
Talking to the media, Swati remained tight-lipped about his future course of action.
“I have decided to detach myself from the Parliament and wrote a letter to my party leadership that sitting in this Parliament is tantamount to wastage of time,” he said, adding that corruption, mismanagement, ineffectiveness of government, bad governance, lawlessness, unemployment and other socio-economic ills were increasing day by day.
The PIA, Pakistan Railways (PR) and trade organisations are deteriorating, he said, terming the rulers a big threat to the country.
The former minister said the government was not taking important matters seriously, as no proper line of action was drawn on the recommendations of All Parties Conference (APC).
“The government is least interested in important matters. The present rulers were a threat to the country,” Swati said, adding that he would discuss his future course of action with his friends.
He raised his concerns about the address of President Asif Ali Zardari to the joint sitting.
Swati said Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar was running his personal business only.
Earlier, Swati reportedly wrote a letter to his party leadership to quit the Parliament in protest against bad governance. However, he was issued notice from the party leadership.
When contacted, JUI-F spokesman said that whatever Swati mentioned in the letter was his personal views. He said that Swati was issued notice from the party.
“The JUI-F is not taking any step to quit Parliament.” he added. The JUI-F is sitting on the opposition benches in Centre but it is part of the treasury benches in Balochistan

hmmm new new guys will come and join PTI... I was a big fan of Imran khan before, but now he is going to be a remote controlled device. He will never ever be able to do what he used to claim and will never achieve what he has in his manifesto.

He is not new! He is a "khan Bahadur" and owns a huge property given by Britishers to his father as a reward of his loyality......He was provincial president of PPP in Pukhtunkhwa later he left it and joined "ANP" won the National assembly seat from NA-9 Mardan, and was given a federal ministry by ANP.....but sahib wanted as much powers as CM .... it must be noted that during PPP government he was Provincial education minister and in the same ministry at that time was much popular for "Parrot ministry"(Nawabzada is called "Toti Khan" by people) and he made many illegal and fake entries in Education....in those days it was popolar that whenever a person went for an interview for job in education sector he was first asked che "Alaka pa merit ye ka' pa parrot" and if the answer was "merit" he was disqualified for the job.....
So the old wine is filling the bottle.........let's see what happens.......I am sure enough that Imran and his team can't bring the revolution as they claim.....but yea they can replace once corrupt government with another.......

Well, hypothetically speaking, lets assume Khan is the real deal and not the glorified Manchurian candidate some see him as. Can one man really, no matter how popular to a portion of the populace he may be, make that much of an impact where he can influence the outcome of an election in a country which is at best held together with strings? Didn't bhutto (the elder) need the likes of Sherpao, Jatoi, Khra, etc.

Recently, PPP-Sherpao leader and KPK provincial minister from Nowkhar, Pervez Khattak announced in Islamabad he was joining the PTI. His supporters clashed with supporters of the PTI old guard; the conflagration was believed to have been instigated by the latter. They railed on about how corrupt establishment politicians were hijacking the "movement", and that they'd been loyal to the party since the beginning and that they "deserve" more. Some folks sentiments seem to mirror that. But remember that there's a fine line between politics and bribery. You receive votes based on your ability (and willingness) to address public grievances.

Assuming my previous statement is concrete, we should carefully look at Imran's old guard and examine their vote bank in their preferred constituencies. Except for a few, you'd notice that each and every one of them has absolutely no political standing whatsoever. Most of them are expats or lounge chair analysts, centered abroad, who joined hands with Khan at one time or another during his many philanthropic and think-tank endeavors. Even if they had the ability to win a seat on their own-knowing what you know about pakistani politics-would they really be able to hold their own in pakistans political setup?

Would a random PTI "leader" be able to hold his own against Ghulam Bilour on NA-1? Or Alamgir on NA-2? Or Sherpao on NA-8? Note that these people or their families have done work their whole lives in their respective constituencies, but most importantly they actually reside in these places and are familiar with the voters. And the first rule on the road to being elected is always voter familiarity. Its one of the reasons why Dr. Pauls star has risen so considerably. Would it not be better for the party as a whole to come off with some sort of success, after 15 years of trying, of what can be described as nothing else but abysmal failures?

Also, if one were to look at the rallies held in and around Pakhtunkhwa, the largest of which -to date- took place in Jhagra. Does anyone really believe that a "non-establishment" candidate or the "old-guard" could have the ability or support with which to arrange a gathering for the numbers of people which attended?

I feel Khan is doing the right thing in allowing candidates with considerable strength to enter his fold-everyone should have a right to join. Now what would be even smarter is to hold intraparty elections-similar to the primaries in the US-if more than one candidate wishes to vie for the same constituency. It'd be good on him to hold new party elections as well-including for his own chairmanship-so that the PTI setup actually mirrors its increased support base. As per his current setup and movement, I touched on that in a previous reply: http://www.pashtunforums.com/politic...48/index4.html

It will be damn hard for any candidate of PTI even their Chairperson Imran Khan to give a tough time to Ghulam Bilour or Alamgir and Sherpao. But even if Imran or his candidate is able to receive only 10,000 votes against these big giants he should feel blessed.

Imran Khan will become successful if the ISI allows it. If people are following him based on merit then I am sorry they are a lost cause. Recently I read somewhere his party offered the US their assurances that their leader would be suitable to the US. Plus Imran Khan has been in politics since the 90's and has hardly won a single seat, hes an opportunist from what I read who supported Musrhaff during very tense times but started whining when things got unfavorable for Imran, same with the whole MQM case, he insults the MQM and calls for their leaders arrest yet he proposes to work with them, as i have read some while ago, maybe I am wrong or right, however Imran Khan will not bring any certain change to Pakistan besides playing with peoples emotions, he will treat every province differently than his native Punjab, he will play a very dangerous role against Afghanistan.

Oh, on one hand you are saying that he is an ISI stooge on the other you are saying that IF ISI will allow his stooge to win the Election? Why IF? If he is a stooge they must allow him?

So it will be wrong for us (Pakistan) to be suitable to the US? Why? I believe that Pakistan should be friendly with each and every state maintaining it's dignity, that's it.

Unfortunately ISI didn't allow him but this time may be the ISI will help their man win?

Oh Really? Imran Khan left Musharraf when Musharraf was at his peak.

What Imran Khan said that IF MQM leaves the politics of terror and extortion he can make an alliance with MQM. It's like I tell you if you change your to female I can marry you. Does that make me gay?

That's what you think, that he will treat every province differently. I think he will treat all equally. Every other leader played with the emotions of the people let Imran Khan do it for once what's wrong in it. Dangerous role against Afghanistan, well I hope he won't.

Yes he did join. I heard that Parvez Khattak also switched his party left PPP Sherpao and joined Imran Khan .. So MPA will be the same under the new flag or this time probably he is going to apply for MNA seat?

I personally like Parvez Khattak for being present within the people and available for the day to day tasks.
