Pakistani officials have accused Nato helicopters of firing on a military checkpoint near Pakistan's Afghan border, killing 25 soldiers.
The "unprovoked and indiscriminate" attack took place in the Pakistani tribal region of Mohmand, the Pakistani military said in a statement.
In response, Pakistan has closed the border crossing for supplies bound for Nato forces in Afghanistan.
Nato said it was aware of "an incident" near the border and was investigating.
The alleged attack took place at the Salala checkpoint, about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) from the Afghan border, Reuters reports, at around 02:00 local time (21:00 GMT).
If confirmed, the attack would further complicate US-Pakistan relations, already under strain following a unilateral US raid that killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan in May.
Unnamed officials initially put the toll at up to eight, including an army major, but it has since risen.
At least seven soldiers were wounded.
The military gave no official toll, saying casualties were reported but details were awaited.
'Supplies halted' Masood Kausar, governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, condemned the attack in a statement, reported AFP news agency.
"Such cross-border attacks are unacceptable and intolerable," he said, adding that the government would take up the matter at the highest level and launch a thorough investigation.
In apparent response to the attack, lorries and fuel tankers were being stopped at Jamrud town in the Khyber tribal region near the city of Peshawar, officials and local media said.
"We have halted the supplies and some 40 tankers and trucks have been returned from the check post in Jamrud," Mutahir Zeb, a senior government official, told Reuters news agency.
Pakistani troops are involved in fighting the Taliban in the crucial border region area. Hundreds of militants have been resisting attempts by the security forces to clear them from southern and south-eastern parts of the district.
The checkpoint at the centre of this latest incident was set up to prevent insurgents crossing over the border into Afghanistan, reports the BBC's Shoaib Hasan in Islamabad.
He says the movement of insurgents from the area into Afghanistan has been a concern for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force and the US.
The US has been targeting militants in Pakistan's tribal areas near the Afghan border for several months, often using unmanned drone aircraft.
Last year, US helicopters accidentally killed two Pakistani soldiers near the border, also prompting Pakistan to temporarily close the border to Nato supplies.
In October, Pakistan's army chief Ashfaq Kayani warned the US against taking unilateral action in nearby North Waziristan.
He said that the US should focus on stabilising Afghanistan instead of pushing Pakistan to attack militant groups in the crucial border region.
Washington has for many years urged Islamabad to deal with militants in the area.

hahaha where have been the great undeaftable paki fous ? i mean the pakis are known for their cowardness , three lost wars against india , and after this they go to kill and slaughter unarmed civiliance , but before doing so they first bomb the whole area .

but no problem ,as soon big baba usa looks angry to the punjabi elite of self denail , they will serve the sahib and madam sahib lemonade and open the border .

i guess if how americans or french or britts would react if another country would bombard in fixed algorhytmic time frames their territory and kill their citizens , and afterwards bomb once in a while some border patrols . lol

well i guess the pakistani uranium bomb is not such an menace like it seems to be

Maybe the intelligence will be shared and in time the truth may emerge, but until we know any different, Din Sahab has a point. It's about the principle of combat. Even in death, respect is due and there's nothing to applaud when people are killed in their sleep. Objecting to people being sacrificed whilst others play politics, doesn't make us automatic supporters of the Pakistan army.

Remember, as much as anything else, there is a propaganda war going on and people make mileage out of good/bad news. Be it NATO, the Taliban, the ANA or the Pakistan army - none are necessarily viewed through rose-tinted spectacles by the people on the ground who are affected by their actions.

I am interested about ethnicities among Pakistan army...

Are ethnicities mixed ? I mean, do you have more Pashtun soldiers in Pashtun areas, more Baloch soldiers in Baloch areas... ?

Or is it an uniform distribution ?

Abassin Afghan you were supposed to hate both NATO and Pakistan...NATO and US have many times bombarded weddings in Afghanistan killing hundreds of civilians because participants were doing air firings as it is part of our culture. And many pashtun villages in afghanistan are completely annihilated by US bombardments because a tajik gave them wrong tip. Or what about humiliating home searches and beatings. Or even rapes of Afghan women by some american soldiers, like russians did...but despite of that you are happy over killing of Pakis as if you have found a treasure or if some one has given you a gulab jaman to eat...
What would be your reaction if some NATO soldiers are killed by Pakistan? I am sure you would be sad.
The talibans in afghanistan that are fighting NATO are those whose familiy members were killed by NATO and they joined talibans for "badal"..they are not beghairat afghans like you who cheer for farangis.

Punjab regiment, frontier regiment, baloch regiment etc all are mixed. You will be pashtun and you can be in Punjab regiment. Baloch regiment doesnt mean it is entirely composed of balochs, infact number of balochs is negligble in Pak army. Pak Army mainly consists of Punjabis (80%) and Pashtuns (15-20 %).

Abassin, there is absolutely NO need to turn around and call a fellow Pashtoon a "Hera Mandi Panjabi" unless you totally lack shame yourself. Luffy, is the product of an educational and political machinery that is nervous about its beginning and its borders. It's perfectly fine to question this aspect, but by being selective in your choice of when and when not to put yourself behind NATO is as irrational as the actions of the State of Pakistan itself. Your manner and the lack of consistency is up for question, I'm afraid.

Further Pak US tensions will lead to the end of the war and occupation.
By logical definition, Pakistan should stop playing a double game and supporting the US war.

Thousands have been killed by drones, but nothing was said. Thousands in Afghanistan have been killed by US airstrikes and night raids, but Pakistan continues to support this US war?

I am not talking on behalf of all pakistanis or pakistani governament, i asked you a simple question,... should'nt be you supposed to hate both NATO/US and Pakistan? US for invading your country and Pakistan for playing double games and interferance in your country?
But all i see is that abaseen afghan is cheering for NATO, the invading forces and killers of thousands of your countrymen.
If you go to your village in afghanistan and tell your kiliwals that you are a great supporter of NATO then your kiliwals would call you a "traitor". Some of your aggressive and jazbati kiliwals might stripe you naked and parade you on streets on donkey....a pashtun way of treating criminals like traitors and watan-farosh.

one single post any how .

and to all this hypocrits who will now scream kufr , the real kufr is when you are hidding behind islamic brotherhood if it is for your advantage but as soon it comes to stand to his own islamic beliefe the truth face shows off

but in your punjabi tought logic ,i am a traitor and what so ever just by not crying about some killed najeez napaki fouz ?

so just because i find it amusing that the dog was bitten by his master (and not vice versa like it is in general ) i am directly pro nato ???

thats really interessting , but you not answerd my question , why is there not a major political and civil movement in pakistan who urges for neutrality of their country in this war ???

and tell me what will this "kiliwall" will do with you who is defending the pakistani state on a regular bases , and you spoke moren than enough on their behalf#

luffy get real you are the cancer you and yours , you said your grandfather was a landlord , propably one of those who profit from the current system , who is like a parasite taking advantage of peoples poverty .and you have probably also a good live based on the wealth your family accumulated on this way ?

one day you will curse the state of ali jinah , ali jinah this shia ismaeli kafir himself and pakistan as a fake artificial state that it is . but then it will be too late ....

1- If you are not a supporter of NATO then in the following post say it clearly and loudly that you hate US occupation of Afghanistan ...come on say it if you have some moral courage left in you.
2- you asked about any movement in pakistan for neutrality in war, answer is Pakistan tehreek insaf which has gained tremendous momentum in the country.
3- your kiliwal afghans would warmely welcome me as their fellow muslim pashtun from neighbour pakistan. I would meet them as a tablighi and i have beard and i am traditional..they would surely shower melmastiya to me...remember afghan people express themeselves on the basis of islam, not on your stalin, hitlar shyt...but are you sure about yourself?..first you would get unwanted attention because of stronge westren influences on you like your speech, dress, way of talking etc then when you will say that that you r happy paki muslims are killed by NATO then it might leads to your ride on donkey.
4- If you do not want to listen some thing nasty about your family living in west, then dont ever bring my grandfather in discussions,..you are westren kid you dont know how land distribution system is among pashtun...my grandfather was a "zameendar" owner of few thousand kanals land which upon division into his sons is now in hundreds. I think you are mistaking my grandpa for some khan or malak. Even then khans and malak can not exploitate other pashtuns. Pashtuns are not like balochs, every family is powerful and has honour. The only weak people in our society are karigars, kamayas, mullahs etc. Who live among pashtuns as "hamsaya"
