Talal, yes, PTI didn't contest the election---Masud Sharif is an ex-IB chief that lives in Islamabad. Khwaja Hoti is kind of lost in political wilderness unable to find a direction.

Below is what Afrasiab Khattak said about Imran Khan's PTI.

Referring to the political rally of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf in Lahore, Senator Afrasiab Khattak said that one or two huge public gatherings cannot bring about a change. “It needs an organised political movement, organisational set-up of the party and election winnable candidates to form a government,” he argued. “I don’t think his (Imran Khan) politics can influence the ANP vote-bank,” this he said while briefing newsmen.
Another ANP worker said the following thing about PTI and Imran Khan.

ANP voter is not that easy to be influence by a cricketer turned politician. PTI is a one man show, that one man is surrogate of establishment. PTI is an upgrade of JI.

^The "ANP" lettering has just been superimposed on the flag.

تورامانه، زه په دی خبره نه پوهیږم چې دا آي اين پي خلک د پښتو لیک قدر ولي نه کاوي؟ دا د غټ شرم خبره ده ـ

Osho makes a fine point with regards to how the lack of respect/manners that the ANP appear to be showing towards Pashto in their banners.

Masood Sharif was in the pakarmy and ISI during the Soviet War; retired in 86 and became one Zias many political spin doctors. After Zia blew up, he used his high school connections with Zardari to set something up for himself in the PPP government, eventually becoming a key adviser of his wifes.

After the PPP government was dissolved for a second time he was imprisoned by then pak president laghari for being too close to the PPP and because he hated his guts for always plotting against him. He was released by musharraf in 1999, using his old army links with then DG MI Ehsan ul Haq. He rejoined the PPP, became a VP in between and contested and lost in 5 constituencies, including, oddly enough, against Imran Khan in Mianwali.

He lost in his home constituency in Karak to an ISI-army backed MMA candidate. He resigned from the PPP along with a bunch of other notable members after bhutto upon US insistence signed the NRO deal with musharraf, something which gave musharraf a clean slate against any and all crimes he may have committed during his tenure as dictator.

As far as I know he was never an investigator in any of the zulfikar bhutto cases. I don't know who or what led to him to join the PTI, it could be another shot at political glory but the man is a veritable asset (when it comes to pakistan); he has tonnes of military-intelligence and political connections, experience in the bureaucracy and knows a thing or two on how to spy on and screw people over.

Its called the US Federal Reserve. Asfandyar Wali received 2 billion rupees in 2008 from the US government; after which the ISI instructed the ANP to take a pro-pakistan stance and prevented them from putting in reforms that were too nationalistic. The deal was to allow them (the ISI) to do what they wanted in FATA, Pakhtunkhwa and in return the ANP could loot the government exchequer to their hearts content. Afrasiabs confidence comes from the fact that Imran Khan happens to be an ISI candidate and the americans seem to be wary of them, so he feels their might be a good chance the ANP might receive a few tax dollars that belong to the american public. Its really too soon to tell what might happen but ANP popularity is at an all time low but I don't really see the PTI breaking into more "traditional" and conservative Pashtun areas without ISI help.
