  • Pakistan warns US over unilateral military action

Pakistan's army chief Ashfaq Kayani has warned the US that it will have to think "10 times" before taking any unilateral action in North Waziristan.
He said that the US should focus on stabilising Afghanistan instead of pushing Pakistan to attack militant groups in the crucial border region.
Washington has for many years urged Islamabad to deal with militants in the area, especially the Haqqani network.
It has been blamed for a series of recent attacks in Afghanistan.
"If someone convinced me that all problems will be solved by taking action in North Waziristan, I'd do it tomorrow," a parliamentarian who attended a briefing given by Gen Kayani quoted him as saying.
"If we need to take action, we will do it on our schedule and according to our capacity."
Gen Kayani told the closed-door parliamentary defence committee meeting in Rawalpindi that any withdrawal of American assistance would not affect Pakistan's defence capabilities.
    'Very focused'
The Haqqani network - believed to be linked to the Taliban and al-Qaeda - is accused of carrying out last month's 19-hour siege of the US embassy in Kabul.
The US has blamed the recent attack on Kabul's US embassy on the Haqqani network
Some reports say that during the briefing Gen Kayani defended Pakistani contacts with the group as "useful" for intelligence gathering.
The verbal and military fight waged by the US against the network has intensified in recent months and is the main cause of tension between the US-led coalition in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
US national security adviser Thomas E Donilon is reported to have told Gen Kayani at a secret meeting in Saudi Arabia earlier this month that Pakistan must either kill the Haqqani leadership, help the US to kill them or persuade them to join a peaceful, democratic Afghan government.
In September outgoing Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm Mike Mullen called the Haqqanis a "veritable arm" of the Pakistani intelligence agency, accusing it of directly supporting the militants who had mounted the attack on the US embassy.
But Pakistan has been reluctant to give in to US pressure on the issue. Last month Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that his country "will not bow to US pressure" on fighting militancy.
A senior official in Afghanistan said on Tuesday that the coalition was "very focused" now on the Haqqani network.
The Haqqani network is thought have bases in Pakistan's volatile tribal regions
He said that the Haqqani network operates mainly in Khost, Paktia and Paktika provinces, but there has been a significant increase in its activities in Wardak and Logar provinces.
Afghan and Nato officials argue that Pakistan's reluctance to confront the Haqqani network has forced them to increase missile strikes against them in their safe haven of North Waziristan.
For months, the US has been targeting militants, including members of the Haqqani group, in Pakistan's tribal areas near the Afghan border - some in the US Congress are now calling for it to go beyond drone strikes.
Pakistan's military was deeply angered and humiliated when US commandos killed al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in a secret raid on Pakistani soil in May.
While Pakistan has long denied supporting the Haqqani group, BBC correspondents say it has a decades-old policy of pursuing foreign policy objectives through alliances with militants.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Pakistan Army seems to be scared in going into North Waziristan even though I am sure and correct me if I am wrong there are already 70,000 soldiers stationed there, your telling me TALAL, that Pakistan army can not take these criminals on or is there other motives involved.

Talal bhai saab, i am quite amazed at the number of Military check posts in North Waziristan, I mean, it took me hours just to get into Mir Ali/Miram Shah, how do these Foreigners get in?

Plus, I saw with my own eyes, 1000s of Pakistani soldiers, even a lot of helipads too, so supplies seem to be intact.

Why is Pakistan so scared to go into North Waziristan?

Its quite obvious, its because its Pro Pak Talib elements are present there, the Haqqanis, Gul Badahurs and Mullah Nazeers, even the Pro Pak Uzbek groups/Arabs are in the 100's.

The Punjabi Taliban is based in Mir Ali, even their media production group called Umer Media, is based in North Waziristan.

What amazes me, is the fact, that Pakistan army acts as if its restrained and can not function there, when infact, it controls the region very well, even the political agent in Waziristan has never been attacked nor thrown out by the Talibs.

Pakistan needs these proxies, and North Waziristan is a great place for them to be based at, as they are close to Afghanistan, and the region is mountainous, difficult for the Talibs to be seen and located by Nato/Afghan forces.

I think its time, for the Nato forces and the Afghan National Army, to consider a ground attack on North Waziristan, something similar to the way, American special forces raided Haqqanis relatives house and gave them the judgement they wanted.

To eradicate terrorism, especially the "Islamist" sort, it would be reasonable to invade Pakistan through ground forces, special forces unit with air support too.

North Waziristan is the hub of global/Pakistani terror. If the people of Waziristan want to shelter terrorists, wanted people of other nations, then expect to pay the price in full.

Fully agree with you on this. USA/Nato/Afghan Army need to go in to Pakistan using ground forces and just clear out the place. It just needs a month if they really want to do this. Only the terrorists to be cleared out. The civilians must not be harmed as far as possible. There cannot be peace in Afghanistan until Pakistan Army put in its place. They are the ones behind the terrorists. As Karzai said Taliban cannot lift a finger without permission from Pak Army & ISI.

Amir I don't disagree with the PA providing shelter to the haqqani bit, but explain to me how is NATO going to attack Pakistan when they can't even meet any of their objectives in Afghanistan..and the scoop on ANA is not that promising

They are quite obviously being protected, but this is Pakistan's double game.

What business did you have in Mir Ali?

There are several other routes, you know.

Plus, I saw with my own eyes, 1000s of Pakistani soldiers, even a lot of helipads too, so supplies seem to be intact.

True, that is still there to this day.

Why is Pakistan so scared to go into North Waziristan?

They are desperately trying to protect their potential stooges.

Its quite obvious, its because its Pro Pak Talib elements are present there, the Haqqanis, Gul Badahurs and Mullah Nazeers, even the Pro Pak Uzbek groups/Arabs are in the 100's.

Uzbeks and Arabs have long been gone.

The Punjabi Taliban is based in Mir Ali, even their media production group called Umer Media, is based in North Waziristan.

                Lie.

Why is that? Its because he isn't there at all. He lives in Peshawar and relies on his men to tell him what's happening in North Waziristan.

Pakistan needs these proxies, and North Waziristan is a great place for them to be based at, as they are close to Afghanistan, and the region is mountainous, difficult for the Talibs to be seen and located by Nato/Afghan forces.

So you want Waziris dead? The drones are bad enough.

To eradicate terrorism, especially the "Islamist" sort, it would be reasonable to invade Pakistan through ground forces, special forces unit with air support too.

Oh, so you are of them.

North Waziristan is the hub of global/Pakistani terror. If the people of Waziristan want to shelter terrorists, wanted people of other nations, then expect to pay the price in full.

From your username, I can tell that you're not Pashtun [or atleast of very watered-down stock, indeed] and you are a communist (wtf? am i seeing straight?). Surely, you have heard of Melmastia. That is what we are required to do by our culture.

That what happens when you sell your soul to the Americans and betray the people and their will.

Now Pakistan are paying for their stupidity. I hope the same happens for some Arab countries (Saudi Arabia and some of the Gulf States) who have betrayed the Muslim and Arab world in return of friendship with USA.

Said in another way, the Arab countries, Pakistan and all other Muslims countries should not allow American bases on their land.

Pak army was shooting on Afghan police troops who were hunting Taliban and Haqqani members. The police called support from the US http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...317324992.html

                        ''The truth behind the accident''!

30 insurgents died in the battle with the police and 27 Paki losers died through the hand of their USrael masters. Damn, that feels good!

Why don´t you fight your war in your own country, why in my country? Are you a coward or just a stupid person who want to start a new arab conquest? You all are the real infidels, not the US or the Jews who are the people of book. The real infidels are you who missuse Islam and manipulate Muslims.

Pakistan can not use it´s satanic ''islamic'' bomb. If they try to press on the button, Indian, Russia, China, France, UK, USA and Israel will nuke that Daaleater to hell. Pakistan act as she is the lion in the region. At the end, without the support of US they will break up. US won´t have any problems to enter Pakistan, secure the nuclear bombs and take them to America or somewhere else. When China can not mess up with US, how can a Pak state mess with it´s own master?

                              What are you talking about?

I am only saying that American bases should not be allowed on Muslim soil as long as they attack Muslim lands and kill civilians.

Pakistan are now paying the price for this.

Yes, go defend USA and the Zionist state. But well you are probably not a Muslim so why do I even bother to tell you that our culture and religion is under attack.
