And for me it doesn't really matter, becuase if US leaves, Pakistan and Iran will control Afghanistan and we will get those monkeys again. At least whith US they will not get the chanse to control us again like in the 90's. So it's like to choose between two evil's I will go whith US becuase they are les evil than Pakistan goverment and Iranian goverment. Everybody knows what those two country are doing whith there own peopel.
Afghanistan is not Germany or Japan- there will be no stability or peace as long as there is a US occupation. The US occupation is the source of instability in Afghanistan, and throughout the region. In Germany and Japan, there was a term of surrender signed. Muslim nations will never ever surrender as that is against Islam and cultural traditions. Add to Islam, the powerful effect of pashtunwali, and the combination is the reason Afghansitan can never be ruled.

Does this war look like it is a victory for the West? They themselves have announced their own defeat with their withdrawal, and shift to a so-called training program. The Taliban control the majority of Afghanistan. This is confirmed by a number of officials, the most significant being former British Ambassador Sherard Coles Cables From Kabul: The Inside Story of the West's Afghanistan Campaign by Sherard Cowper-Coles

The US economy and as well as the EUs is now at the complete mercy of China who will not do any favors, and will expect full ownership which was clear as they put forth their conditions recently to "save" the EU economy. The EU predictably rejected this offer, but with no one else to "bail" them out (US has no money), it may be the only offer they can get, and China does not negotiate or budge. They stick to what they want in return, and do not negotiate up or down. That philosophy has taken them far.

So, it is then left to you to come to realization that a proclamation of support for the US occupation and war by Karzai in reality is a favor to the opposition. Whereby, before people may have been fooled by his periodic anti-US rhetoric, now he and his "government" have made their opposition to the Afghan people clear, and it can not be backtracked. This is why Karzai was not all smiles at the false jirga because he has no friends in Afghanistan, and no friends around Afghanistan. He is in a sea of sharks, and they will not tolerate and the foreign occupation of Afghanistan as this goes against their interests. Regional nations as well as the Afghan people now have convergent interests.

So, there you have it. He has done the various Afghan opposition groups a favor by publicly endorsing and supporting this war which has claimed so many Afghan lives.

(Xinhua/Safi) JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of university students came to the street in Nangarhar province 120 km east of Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday and lashed at the Loya Jirga or grand assembly recommendations in favor of U.S.-Afghan strategic partnership and called for the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO-led forces from Afghanistan.

Blocking the Jalalabad-Kabul highway in Surkhrod district for a while, the demonstrators while condemning the Jirga recommendations demanded the withdrawal of NATO-led troops from Afghanistan, Surkhrod district governor Syed Akbar Pacha said.

A four-day traditional Loya Jirga or grand assembly, attended by over 2,300 people including tribal elders, notables, lawmakers and government functionaries, concluded Saturday recommended the government to ink strategic partnership with the United States.

The demonstrators dispersed peacefully after three hours, said Syed Akbar.

to the people who think they are choosing the lesser of other evils. u are still choosing evil, and its this evil that supports the other evils that u are opposed to. namely the paki-american relationship.

how about not choosing either of them? this has basically been a decades long civil war that would of ended years ago if foreigners hadn't involved themselves. choosing the americans, pakis, iranians, indians, russians or whoever else for guardianship is just prolonging this civil war.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

Despite that fact that China, Russia, Pakistan, and Iran have convergent interests with seeing the US out. It is irrelevant to Afghanistan determination towards ending the occupation and achieving independence and freedom. That regional nations are opposed to US occupation has no bearing. Sure it is a plus, but still irrelevant.

these countries want it both ways, they want the US to stay because they are fearful of a civil war in the event of a total withdrawal. on the other hand they want them to leave because they see it as interfering in their regional sphere of influence.

Nangarhar students protest against Loya Jirga decisions, block highway

              Posted on November 21, 2011

JALALABAD (AIP): Students of the Nangarhar University blocked the main Kabul-Jalalabad highway for all kinds of traffic in a protest against the decisions of the Loya Jirga on Sunday.Raising slogans of Allah-o-Akbar (Allah is great), death for America, death for slave jirga and death for sellers of Afghanistan, the protesting students strongly opposed the Loya Jirga decisions. A protester Atiqur Rehman told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP): “The entire university has been shut down. We don’t accept decisions of the slave Loya Jirga and military bases to America or any other country.”“Decisions of the slave jirga are efforts to officially enslave the brave Afghan nation. Afghans would never accept it,” he added. The protesters burnt statue of the US President Barack Obama and US flag. The protest demonstration concluded with the release of a declaration. The declaration termed members and attendees of the Loya Jirga as government people, saying they could not represent the nation.Opposing the US military bases and lasting presence, the resolution urged the Afghan people to defend their rights and country. The declaration stated lasting presence of America in Afghanistan meant aggression on people and soil of the country, and that military bases should not be given to America in the country. The four-day Loya Jirga wrapped up in Kabul yesterday. It was attended by about 2000 people. The jirga conditionally recommended strategic agreement with the US.Meanwhile, rejecting decisions of the Loya Jirga, the Taliban Sunday said the decisions would cause long-term disputes in Afghanistan.A Taliban press release stated that they (Taliban) had already said attendees of the so-called Loya Jirga were not representatives of the Afghan people, adding the participants were active Afghan officials including ministers, governors, district chiefs, qazees and pro-occupiers.The press release said the jirga held under airtight security measures accepted giving military bases to the US forces under some deceptive conditions.“They allowed 10-year stay to the US troops who searched houses of Afghan people in the last 10 years, martyred near and dear ones of people, put innocent people in their detentions and dismantled their orchards and houses,” the press release added. “We believe the decisions were made by the America ahead of the gathering and were just read out by the so-called Loya Jirga. The decisions would create rifts in the region besides turning Afghanistan into a hub of disputes for a long span of time. We can surely say the step would play a vital role in strengthening jihad in Afghanistan and in the fall of America,” the press release stated. The press release maintained attendees of the Loya Jirga proved that they could go at any length to meet their wishes and vested goals. “The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns the decisions of the Loya Jirga and assures the Afghan nation that nothing can hinder jihad in Afghanistan,” the press release said.“The Islamic Emirate believes the ultimate solution of the Afghan conflict lies in the complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan. Such jirgas and conferences will prove futile till the real cause of the conflict is addressed. Such gatherings would rather increase losses and difficulties for Afghanistan, America and its allies,” the press release stated. The four-day Loya Jirga concluded in Kabul yesterday (November 19) with the release of a 76-point declaration. The Jirga agreed with inking of conditional strategic partnership accord with the US and American military bases in Afghanistan.

We can't choose, Afghan peopel never could choose what is the best for them. We never choosed our leaders nor goverment. Everethyng was forced by foreigeners or some powerfull individuals in our own country. You peopel think that when US leaves everything will become stabel and peacefull but that is not the case. When USSR whitdrawed from Afghanistan, civil war accured and Taliban that were supported by Pakistan came to power....
If our neigbours were peaceloving nations I would belive that when US leaves Afghanistan would be peacefull but Pakistan and Iran would do anything to control Afghanistan.

Do not ask me what I have done for Afghanistan. Ask that to yourself, you Munafeeq. If they would fight against ''occupiers'', why don´t they fight with Pakistani Army, ISI, TTP and other terrorists? Why don´t they establish their sharia state first in Pakistan? Because they are Pakis tools! Now go spend your life on the next fast food corner and clean your oil station

On November 19th, Afghanistan ended its more than 2,000 member Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly), which was commenced four days earlier by President Hamid Karzai and attended by a wide variety of “elders” from various backgrounds. There is a debate as to whether the representatives were handpicked by Mr. Karzai, as voiced by his opposition, or they were true representatives of their constituencies. Nevertheless, this consultative Loya Jirga, which has no legal binding, except to counsel the president, was convened to garner support for President Karzai’s proposed strategic partnership with the United States, following the departure of American and international forces at the end of 2014.

To the pleasure of Mr. Karzai, the members of the Loya Jirga, almost unanimously and without any tension, endorsed his proposed strategic partnership, pending more than 50 articles, which deal mainly with protecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty (militarily and otherwise), facilitating economic growth, and providing support in civil, academic and social spheres.

In return the United States will be provided bases to continue to engage in its counter terrorism activities.

The following day, around 1,000 students from Nangarhar University protested against the strategic partnership, but otherwise, no major public disagreement manifested.

Next, the proposal will be brought to the floor of the Afghan Parliament for debate, which has legal powers to disagree with president Karzai’s proposal.
So why is this strategic relationship with the United States so important to Afghans and Americans?

In the years since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, Afghanistan went from one destructive war to another for one reason or another. Unfortunately, these conflicts were fueled by one nation or another for their interests at the expense of Afghans. This continuous warfare robbed Afghanistan of a true representative central government with a writ beyond a few miles from the capital. Thus, Afghanistan became a vacuum for religious ideologues — who were supported and organized by the international community against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan — which converted Afghanistan into their base of operation to fight a global Jihad. To some degree they were successful and eventually they became capable enough to attack the United States in September of 2001 (9/11).

The United States, recognizing the dangers of continuing to be apathetic towards Afghanistan’s ailments, which it had contributed to creating, after 9/11 it militarily toppled the Taliban government for its refusal to surrender Osama bin Laden and for its support of Al-Qaeda, the perpetrator of 9/11. This operation to dismantle Al-Qaeda and its well-wishers became known as a “war on terror”, and despite ten years and the killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011, it is still raging in Afghanistan with hopeful, but limited success.

In the process of this “war on terror”, with the support of the international community, specifically the United States, Afghanistan developed a nascent democracy, and considerable progress was made in key sectors such as governance, security, economy, health, education, transportation, and so forth. Today, the United States with its partners, both NATO and non-NATO nations, has been training the Afghan military and police force to become capable of defending Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Unfortunately, veiled behind these successes is the reemergence of the Taliban, who have found safe havens in Pakistan. Despite many attempts by the international community to pressure Pakistan, the Taliban safe havens continue to operate with a certain degree of blessing from the Pakistani intelligence services. Peace overtures to the Taliban and their supporters in Pakistan have been made by the Afghan government to no avail.

After more than ten years of investments in forming a modern and responsible nation in Afghanistan, the gains appear fragile and reversible. Afghanistan still doesn’t have the monetary and military capability to fend for itself. It is this fragility of maintaining the present achievements that a strong and reliable partnership with the United States becomes a necessity, especially when the international community is to depart Afghanistan at the end of 2014.

Nevertheless, despite the necessity to partner with the United States, there is some fear amongst the Afghans, as was evident by the demonstration of Nangarhar University students, the day following the Loya Jirga’s decision to bless president Karzai’s proposed partnership with the United States, that Afghanistan will lose its sovereignty. From a superficial and emotional perspective that may be true, but the reality is that Afghanistan’s sovereignty was already violated when Al-Qaeda, Iran, Russia, India and Pakistan were jockeying for power and control prior to 9/11.
In fact, Pakistan’s federal government had a budget allocated to Afghanistan, as if Afghanistan was its fifth province.

Unfortunately, Afghans had no control over their affairs, and the violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty had no limit; whereas, the present proposal limits the United States to a ten year partnership in an environment that leaves Afghans with a representative government to make a decision to whether extend or terminate the partnership in ten years, or at anytime sooner.

In conclusion, the Strategic Partnership with the United States will provide the Afghan people some guarantee and reassurance that their country won’t revert to the dire situation prior to 9/11, and it will provide the United States and the rest of the international community a peace of mind that unscrupulous groups and/or organizations won’t create a base from which it can disrupt common local and international goals. Moreover, with peace and stability, Afghanistan’s central location in the heart of Asia can become a bridge to economic, academic and social endeavors which can benefit the region and beyond.

The following day, around 1,000 students from Nangarhar University protested against the strategic partnership, but otherwise, no major public disagreement manifested.
What was the claim? There were elsewhere protests, too?

First of all, you said these protests did not happen. Please provide proof for that.

Please provide the proof that Daud Khan was not assassinated by Militant Communist/Secularists, since your word means nothing.

Protests are not new. There were protests in Kabul just over a week ago against US occupation. In fact, there have been several protests even in the North, too.
