Three US-led soldiers have been killed in attacks in southern Afghanistan as the number of deaths among foreign forces in the country continues to climb.

NATO said in a statement that three more soldiers were killed in separate attacks in the country's volatile south.

The Western military alliance says that two of the soldiers died in a bomb blast, while the other died after a militant attack in the same area.

The US-led military alliance, however, did not disclose the exact location of the incident or the nationality of the soldiers.

August 2011 was the deadliest month for US troops in the decade-long war in Afghanistan with 66 American soldiers killed in this month alone.

According to iCasualties.org, at least 442 foreign soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year. At least 2,723 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

Violence in Afghanistan is on the rise as militants have expedited their spring and summer offensive.

The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of nearly 150,000 US-led forces in the country.

A bomb attack has killed one US-led soldier in southern Afghanistan as foreign forces face a climbing number of deadly attacks in the war-ravaged country.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) announced in a statement that the foreign soldier was killed by a roadside bomb on Sunday, Reuters reported.

The statement did not provide further details on the attack or the nationality of the killed soldier.

According to iCasualties.org, at least 439 US-led soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

August 2011 was the deadliest month for US troops in the decade-long war in Afghanistan with 66 American soldiers killed in the month alone.

The figure, released by the Associated Press, eclipsed the earlier record figure of 65, set in July 2010.

Most fatalities were related to an August 6 helicopter crash in which 30 US troops lost their lives. The soldiers were onboard a Chinook shot down by Taliban militants in Afghanistan's Wardak Province in the single deadliest incident of the Afghan war.

Twenty-three other American troops died this month in the provinces of Kandahar and Helmand in southern Afghanistan. The remaining 13 were killed in eastern Afghanistan.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign forces.

The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
