I am sure Urdu dramas are adding to your already bulging factual knowledge.

    Go and do your:

O'faithful hearken thy vezir, for he promises them another Gandamak and for the ancestors of Hari Nalwa a similar fate has been sealed. We shall shake the foundations of their inner sanctums, written in gold and immortal will remain this endeavor of Afghans.

I was skilled kite runner and i agree with you scimitar. The common thread with glass coating called "manja" in pashto is allowed and it doesnt cut throat or fingers. I used to make glass powder from glass of zero light bulb , made a sticky material from a substance called "salwaisht" in pashto. The thread i used to use was normal thread. It doesnt cut your fingers in half and it is permissible. Now the thing is you have to compete with other kite runners and for that you need sharper and lengthy manja. The quality ready made manja is sold in lahore and i especially went to lahore to buy lahori manja. But i found that in lahore many people use conducting wires as manja for competition which is responsible for cutting throats of people.

What should be done is conduct this sport under a controlled environment where quality of thread is the same and safety precaution are observed because if one kite runner has better quality of thread than he/she has an advantage, if they use the same quality, then the only advantage would be skill.

But the Talibans main reason to ban it was that gambling went hand in hand with this sport just like it goes with other sports, that's why they banned many things that would seem weird to the westerner like Scimitar and others on this forum.

you could use plastic instead, kite wire isn't that impenetrable.

this is a perfect example of the ignorance and lack of education of the Taliban influencing their policy and adversely affecting others.

Kite runners try to cut the string of their opponents kite. How is plastic supposed to cut. This is a dangerous sport that is done from peoples roofs and backyards, innocent people get hurt all the time. Its like having an air show in the middle of the city.
The Talibans issue had more to do with gambling. your still using a red herring, you dont kknow what your talking about

ever see a serrated plastic knife? if that can cut through meat it can cut through a dinky piece of thread

supporting the Taliban has sacked your usually intelligent mind.

              defending stupidity leads to stupidity

No YOU are using a red herring, you were trying to defend it from the stand point of safety. Not I, I'm just showing how absurd it is to argue that angle.

and if Gambling is what the concern was, why didnt the Taliban ban soccer? You can gamble in that too. Lot of things can be gambled over , why not just ban gambling, and not the the sport

you're digging the Taliban a deeper hole in the annals of incompetence.

                @khushal

In shah hasan khel village of lakki marwat , a taliban collided a car full of explosives to a volley ball match, more than 110 people were killed. They attacked villagers because they refused to cooperate with talibans against army, but they made excuse that they targeted volley ball match because gambling was involved in match.
In the same way they blasted another bomb in kabadi match in another village killing 10 people. They closed internet cafes and music centres by blasting few of them as warning.
They put ban on dhol, pukanai and attan and weddings became serious like funerals. So when talibans crossed limits then our people finished them with chagha parties and lashkars otherwise military operation like swat would be going on in lakki marwat.
So talibans are against entertainment and sports...and they can go to extent of blewing them with bombs when they want to refrain them from entertaiment. Guys like unknown (sitting in america) have no idea how life is felt under talibans, he should ask it from afridi how mangal bagh's talibans have destroyed their personal freedom.

I am well aware of these things happening. But you fail to realize the root of conflict and you lack the understanding of your own history, the Brits were generous enough to have laid out a plan for you on what works in FATA and what does not because they learned it the hard way.

The Pak army have invaded FATA. From the start the PAK army have been reluctant to invade but they were pressured by the US. FATA pashtuns were heavily involved bringing Nadir Shah to power in Afghansitan in 1929, they were heavily involved in the Soviet/Afghan war, they were heavily involved in the rise of the Taliban in the 90's, and the Taliban come back in this current conflict with NATO. The Soviets did not posses the capability to pressure the Pak army to invade FATA but the US have this capability and have utilized this capability to pressure the Pak army to invade. This policy is wrong, it is completely counter productive to the stability of the region and to US interests and the regions interests. The policy makers that have control are not aware of the history of this region and they are blind to the British lessons in the region.

Read your history, whenever the Brits invaded these areas, they always and I mean every single time the Brits faced stiff resistance from the tribes. During the Brits invasion the tribes reacted by burning schools, disrupt construction projects, they would destroy any infrastructure that the British or their indigenous counterparts would build. Even during that time just like today people in FATA became extremists and attacked anything they viewed a threat to their autonomous way of life. This is nothing new. I don't know why you are surprised by this violent reaction since you seem like a person who knows his own history. In the end the Brits left the areas and made agreements with the tribes. The Americans seem to be to arrogant to learn what the Brits learned the hard way. If you want to bring these people into the Pakistani society, you must build institution on their terms not on your terms because if you don't build it on their terms then they don't want them at all.

You've heard the saying " ya mar, ya mor." in other words "my way or the high way."

This is a serrated plastic knife

a serrated plastic string is not going to work the same way.

I have never supported the Taliban but I will do my best to explain why people do what they do and once we figure out the root cause of the problem, then we can figure out the solution, your a scientist, you should know this.

I am speculating the Talibans angle was safety as well as gambling, I also said that was Pakistan's angle and also the UK's angle of banning in certain areas. Is it not ironic that no one knew of Paksitan ban and even after the fact that I announced it no one is protesting Pakistans or the UKs ban on flying kites. Whats up with that. Biased maybe. I though we were supposed to be intellectually honest.

Now I dont know about you but if someone is flying a kite with a glass coated string around a child, I will not protest a ban on such unsafe activities especially when deaths have occurred in the past. That is probably why we don't see this sport in the west. Wise choice for the western world but they criticize others for banning what they themselves ban.

The Taliban did ban soccer at the beginning but the people protested so they unbanned it. Them Afghan love soccer.
The Tyee – Yasameen and Raziea, Afghan Soccer Heroes

they even talked about lifting the ban TV.
Taliban moots unbanning TV to promote Islam - World News | IOL News | IOL.co.za

The point here is not that I am defending the Taliban, the point here is let the society evolve on its own and let them learn from their mistakes, every society has this right. Look at Iran, they have evolved from the 1979 revolution. Look at America, they have evolved from the first colonials when they were burning witches to their slavery days. women sufferage took over 200 years.

Of course the Taliban are incompetent, but why don't you tell us which Afghan administration is competent.

I would be the last person to defend the Taliban and at the same time I cant even bring myself to defend any of the other administrations. Every time I go to my village, I get into arguments with everyone. They don't understand and I don't blame them for how could they understand you when you in the west cant understand them and your the educated one. People from my village used to call my father baighyrata because he sent his daughters to school in Kabul. Today he has built a school for girls in that same village and all the villagers are grateful for they have seen the light because they have noticed my sisters abilities vs their illiterate daughters and sons abilities.
These things should not be forced. Pashtuns reject anything that is forced on them even if it is good for them.

NSW Dept of Aboriginal Affairs: Land and Culture: Fact Sheet
As the first area to be colonised, New South Wales bore the brunt of these impacts. Language groups were fragmented and Aboriginal people were forced to relocate into mixed language groups, reducing the opportunities available to speak their language.
On missions and government run settlements, Aboriginal languages were frequently banned and in most cases discouraged
