  • DR NAJIB speaking to Meshrano in PAKTIA, about the TANAI coup (great clip)

So completely setting aside the debate on Najib, I want to focus strictly on this clip. Say what you want about the man, but he knew how to talk. An Afghan leader, who will be a success, will be able to communicate like Dr Najib....he had many faults, enough faults to condemn him, many believe. But he had strengths as well.

Future Afghan leaders, should take the good from past leaders and learn from mistakes

I think this was posted a few months ago here as well and sparked a discussion.
Bill Clinton also knew how to talk. By southern conventions and by world standards he was one of the most eloquent orators of the last century. However, that does not mean he did what was best for his people. He sustained a policy of interventionalism abroad and just covered it up better. Contrast his style with that of Ron Paul, a more honest and genuine gentleman with a series of economic and foreign policies that could potentially extricate the US from its trajectory path of empire and regain the republic out of it.
Hitler also had his strengths as an orator as did Churchill. Stalin was seen as the best amongst the pulitburos diplomats... these traits dont entitle these folks to moral leadership.
Moreover, as a physician, Najib was an abysmal failure. He failed the hippocratic oath innumerable times.

I will let God himself answer:
"There is the type of man whose speech about this world's life May dazzle thee, and he calls Allah to witness about what is in his heart; yet is he the most contentious of enemies."
    Surah Baqarah Ayaah 204

How well this ayaah of the revelation from the One God applies to Najib... who would later call Allah to witness when he added the suffix Ullah to his name as he saw defeat on the horizon.
"2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

from a purely leadership perspective and considering i dont know much about Afghan leaders, i think Ahmad Shah Massoud and Daud Khan were two guys i would look upto. This is ofcourse my personal opinion based on what little ive read of these guys, especially a guy like Massoud.

Under his administration, Kabul was destroyed. He could not unite the people and he gave up Kabul without a fight when it was completely destroyed. The Taliban was a reaction to his stupidity that had caused the chaos in Afghanistan. The idiot sold his people to the Soviets, The CIA, The ISI, India, Iran until there was no buyer left.

Considering that there are many more worthy candidates for public admiration, I confess to feeling a slight acid reflux reaction at all the giant sized pictures of Massoud coming out of Kabul Airport. He just doesn't compare to national symbols like Mirwais Hotak or Ahmad Shah Durrani, for example.

There are many non-Panjshiris (Pashtoons especially) who view renaming roads and landmarks in Kabul after Massoud as an attempt to re-write a part of history. There's good and bad in most of the people that are set up to be admired, but the man was a warlord, let's not forget.

Na Khushal Mara. I think I said something about seeing pictures of Massoud as if he was suddenly a hero posted all around Kabul. Massoud. Hero ka Zero? Put it this way. what's 1 minus 1?

I just reread your statement. I misunderstood what you said. So pigs are not flying. Manana wrora.

While I dont doubt there are pashtun supporters of Masood, but they are an extreme minority. you could probably count them like the fingers on your hand. The man is considered a sell out not just by pashtuns but many tajiks as well. Hazaras hate him because of his campaign to wipe them out from Kabul. The only reason his pics are all over Kabul is because the US needs the NA for its interests in Afghanistan.

                          @ Khushal and Tor Khan

The less i say on the matter the better, maybe the two figures i noted get biased reviews & Khushal I will definitely read that article.

I agree with you on Ahmad Shah Durrani Tor Khan, but I was talkin in terms of more contemporary leaders. Abdali is a legend, but thats the problem with legends they are too old to be of any practical use in the present
